President Barack Obama called Shirley Sherrod Thursday to offer his apologies and urge her to accept a promotion on Thursday, but the Agriculture Department official, who was forced out on unfounded charges of racism, kept mum on her plans.
Obama had tried to call her twice on Wednesday night but couldnt connect with Sherrod, according to an administration official. West Wing staffers were attempting to call her again when she returned the presidents calls at around 12:35 p.m.
The apology came after Sherrod took to the airwaves Wednesday to say she would appreciate a call from the president. The 62-year-old grandmother resigned at the direction of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack after a misleading video was posted on conservative websites. It later was discovered to have been doctored to misrepresent Sherrod as racist.

Which is still racial discrimination. Do I have that right?
BTW, I'm in Europe the last few weeks and extremely limited access to TV during our journeys. I do get to a computer every now and then....like now. Today's a down day.
So, when is Obama going to apologize to the police officers that he accused of “acting stupidly”?
We need a thirty day period of national apology in her honor, and also an international apology tour. And reparations. An executive order should take care of that.
This is a load of BS. Doctored would mean it was changed to have her say something she didn't say or show her saying things out of sequence. I don't think either of these things happened.
I've heard a lot of talk about the video being "edited". In my view editing means changing something, removing, or inserting something. This in my opinion didn't happen. What was shown was a excerpt from her speech. It was never claimed to be the whole speech.
With her background I can see her suing the Dept. of Agriculture, again.
Yeah, I guess. Then she changed her mind and went all out to help him and did save his farm. Considering she worked for a non-profit org created to help black farmers she didn't have to help him at all and said so. She also said that in those days in southern Georgia blacks didn't help whites and whites didn't help blacks.
The whole point of her speech was that poor farmers of any color ought to get over skin color and work together to deal with government and the banks that screw farmers.
Even if you could see TV you wouldn't hear much that helped clarify things.
What I read 2 days ago was that she joked at an NAACP meeting that she went out of her way to injure a white farmer and got a lot of applause for her words.
Are we being told now that didn’t happen?
Are we being told she was just joking?
If the first, then that’s one thing. If the second, that’s still bigotry.
It didn’t look to me like she was making a joke out of it. It didn’t look to me like the audience was approving of the bias she was recounting. Seeing the whole speech changes everything. I’m sure you will see a lot of people saying that isn’t so but I think they’re full of it.
Time to call "1-800-ASK-GARY" and get off my TV Set !!
is there a link to the speech on here...or at least the relevant section?
So the moral of the story here is that its OK to be a racist and predjudiced as long as you apologize AND you are black....remember that kids.
She looks to me like a woman who genuinely wants to and has gotten beyond race but is still stuck on the Progressive Plantation. She has the right motives but the wrong view of solutions. The Marxists own her mind.
Absolutely! 0baMao is 100% racist and worse than that he knows it’s a game and is playing it from the Black Liberation Theology POV.
I agree. Didn’t sound like what it was reported as. And there was no applause. She sounded like she was trying to be helpful.
Breitbart, or whatever his name, has shot himself in the foot with this one.
I think Breitbart got snookered just as everyone who saw the excerpt has been. I agree with Ann Coulter; the NAACP mole who gave him the excerpt knew the whole story and set him up. She says Breitbart should name him/her and I agree with that too.
He obviously doesn't have anymore of this speech to reveal since the whole speech is out now. But he may have something else.
If this is what he led off with, and he viewed it, then he doesn't know what good info looks like.
If he led with this, and didn't view it but proclaimed it a grand exposé , then he's not likely to have anything else unless accidentally, since he doesn't personally preview his material.
That's his problem not yours or mine. It has had the happy effect of showing 0bammy doing a dancing puppet routine.
You're telling me. It would make sense to have something else set aside....waiting to be launched.
