You need to separate the illegal alien issue from the Puerto Rico issue. They are two totally different things.
Those born in Puerto Rico are natural born U.S. Citizens, and don’t care for illegals as much as the next guy.
You made a post with the religious affiliation of several in govt. My post was to show that being Catholic has nothing to do with political position. In fact, it’s clear from the bishop’s statement, that the Catholic Church supports illegals and wants them treated as well, if not better, than citizens.
Okay. And my point is that our two top elected government officials oppose abortion, gay marriage and all that crap and that’s the official policy of the current Puerto Rico government. But I do see your point about hypocritical religious leaders.
Puerto Ricans, at least islanders, are not particularly sympathetic to Mexican illegals or illegals in general. They have their own problem with illegal immigration.
And a significant percentage are socially conservative, maybe more than the average mainlander. They are probably not conservative in the sense of being free marketeers or classic liberal individualists. So while the GOP is sometimes shy about its social conservatives and its Christian conservatives here on the mainland, among Puerto Ricans that would be its calling card.
What is your view?
Island Puerto Ricans are mostly ignorant about mainland politics. When the status issue is resolved and they start learning about Conservative vs. Liberal politics, that is, when they learn what the democrtas stand for (high taxes, abortion, gay agenda, racial separation, anti-semitism, welfare, socialism, etc.), they’ll gravitate towards the GOP.
