Here is a man whose every word and deed is easily explicable once you know the single essential thing about him: He is a member of a fascist splinter group that believes it is the salvation of the Catholic Church.
This schismatic crackpot sect is headed by Mel Gibson's father, Hutton Gibson, a nutty autodidact with a sideline in Holocaust denial.
Like many ultra-conservative Catholics, the Gibsons, père et fils, have never forgiven the Vatican for lifting the charge of deicide against the Jews in 1964.
Less well-remembered, perhaps, is the interview in which he announced that his wife of many years and the mother of his children would not, alas, be able to join him in paradise.
It was not a matter of her moral character. It was simply that she had not seen fit to join the one true church.
Her condemnation, then, was "a pronouncement from the chair."
Gibson has now traded in this long-suffering ladyhopelessly rupturing his sacred marriage vowsfor another, younger one, who, to phrase it delicately, was almost certainly not picked for her salient Catholic virtues.
In doing this, he must have had a consciousness, however dim, of having endangered his immortal soul.

Yes.
Christopher Hitchens is exactly the sort of fool who will tell you Stalin, Mao, Ho Chi Minh, the Khmer Rouge and Hitler (among others) murdering tens of millions had nothing to do with their atheism, but Gibson spewing racism is undeniably the result of him being a Catholic.
Oh, and he’s also the sort of fool who’ll tell you that Gibson is vicious because he’s a Catholic, but every good thing other Catholics have done has nothing to do with their being Christians.
In other words, he’s a sad, sad fool, one who had better repent because Hell is close.
The title of this article is just ludicrous. Absurd, really.
(Off thread-topic, I know, but with accusations of racism being lobbed at the Tea Party movement lately, his voice could be utilized as an invaluable antidote in the 2010 campaign. Probably afraid of not getting work but, having already achieved the Oscar career milestone it might be as good a time as any to switch things up and focus his considerable charisma towards politics. Jmho.)
I’m curious to know why “Oksana refused to sign the long form ($15 million deal), claiming she felt coerced.”
ROL didn’t pay her for the tapes either.
Loved your last line...but it’s Ruths Chris Steak House. Just sayin’.
Beliefs belong in any aspect of one’s life that they see fit. Anyone who (for example) claims to be a disciple of the man who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, I am the Living One who was dead but is now alive for ever and ever, holding the keys of death and Hades, is kidding themselves if they confine that to an hour or so on one day out of seven.
When people say that person should do that, they’re saying something about themselves, not the devout.
Gibson Sr. didn’t want any of his sons to have to serve-I think he had 6 or 7 sons.
No, of course not. And they never murder tens of millions of people trying to creat an earthly paradise, either.
The tabloids will make a fortune over this story.
Dead on, folks.
Look at the bright side. At least its up front rather than hiding it behind 'science' like the crevo threads (may they stay in the garbage bin of history).
Hitch: STFU and take care of your illness.
Guess they must be closet Catholic right-wingers. Hitchens couldn’t possibly be wrong, he’s a font of wisdom!
I makes no difference. The draft ended a year before Mel turned 18.
Now let us kneel in respectful silence as the beautiful indigenous Spanish speaking sixteenth century Inquisition Catholics (who lived in Turtle Island for seven hundred gazillion years before that redneck Columbus ruined it all) crawl ten miles on their knees over ground glass before crucifying themselves. Viva la huelga! [/sarcasm]
I suppose we'll find out when the Sheriffs Dept investigation is finished.
Well Mel's father couldn't prophesy that in 1968 and he also has several older brothers.
Was he bipolar?
