From CNN:
Sen. John McCain is widely ahead of his two primary challengers, according to a new poll.
A Behavior Research Center survey released Thursday indicates that 64 percent of likely Arizona Republican primary voters support McCain, with19 percent backing former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, five percent supporting Jim Deakin, a Tea Party activist, and 12 percent undecided. The primary is scheduled for August 24.
Why such a gap?
"The simple reality is that McCain took his (Hayworth's) border and SB 1070 issue away from him, and then nailed him on ethics issues pertaining to being a lobbyist and so on," said Earl de Berge, Behavior Research Center's research director. "Most Republicans just pinch their nose at that stuff, and I think it just turned them off to him. It's the devil you know versus the devil you don't know."
The margin of of error for the sample in de Berge's poll is 6.9 percent.
Hayworth responds:
Hayworth spokesman Mark Sanders says the polling firm has "no credibility."
I am sure he wants to do that, but Mr. Crew Cut can’t get fundraising. Maybe he should go get a tax free government loan or something he was harping about
A margin of error of 6.9% is pretty high. I’d recommend a better study with a larger sample and better margin of error before saying anything else. This could be all outlier numbers. Other polls don’t put the race this wide apart.
While I can’t say that the fat lady is singing, I do, however, hear her clearing her throat.
The really bad thing in this is that the age of McCain means this could very likely be his last election. He’ll be an unaccountable, insider, rino systemite. He’ll wreak havoc with conservative plans.
Is there no way to rehabilitate the third candidate? Does he have more baggage than Hayworth?
>>> Or, maybe they believe what Juan McCain says?
And how many net votes does calling McCain “Juan” win for Hayworth? The evidence says “few” if any. It’s just too lame.
Yeah, everyone knows that Hayworth doing an infomercial is way, way, worse than the accumulated damage that the traitor John McCain has done during his political career. /sarc
I think it’s pretty obvious that McCain is pulling in all the “favors” he’s owed - he’s a slick political machine. GOD help this country!
Either the media is trying the McCain shuffle again or there are some dumb sh*t Republicans out there.
Polls have gone from being snapshots of the situation to being a method of affecting results. The MSM uses them all the time to spin stuff.
Truth is, this poll will not affect the outcome of the election more than 1 or 2 percent, if that. What it DOES do though is trick McCain's supporters into being buoyed into giving more money and support.
America faces danger on every front. From extremist, militant Islam to a Gulf of Mexico that could turn into a huge oilcano, we're under attack all around. But the biggest threat we face, IMHO, is that we've lost control of the election process. From dog catcher to President the system has lost its integrity. And every change made in the name of improving it usually turns out to be a Trojan Horse aimed at making it easier for the bad guys to exploit.
I don’t believe it. The people of Arizona have to smarter than this.
Yep - as evidenced by some of the FReepers on this very thread.
All set to “reach across the aisle” again.
Lol, Juan has earned the distinction of being called Juan, several times over. And calling Juan Juan is one of the milder designations for Juan.
If that bothers you, you must not have read many posts around FR. And how do you like the Juan peso that has been so popular?
And, of course, we all know Juan would never say anything uncomplimentary or unkind or UNTRUE about any political opponent.

All of the above.
Quite True! JD needs money. The corrupt power structure has starved JD money wise. Juan is running continuous Ads with Soros money.
Help JD with donations ASAP!
I agree. Hayworth comes across as a self-promoting nut. I’m not from Arizona but I have to admit that if I were, I’d probably vote for McCain.
And how does John McCain come across to you?
Scott Brown was a situation that will rarely be repeated, and most of that money was raised the last three or so weeks of that campaign once it caught the nation's attention where a Republican had a chance to take the Ted Kennedy seat. That can't be duplicated.
Florida's population is almost 20 million, and Arizona around 6.8 million, almost three times as large. And Rubio has had constant support from most all conservative talk show hosts and most of the establishment. JD hasn't, and many who disagree with McCain on most major issues are supporting him.
And I don't know what organization you got that figure from, or as of what date, but JD's website has shown two completed, $1 million fundraising drives.
Palin stepped up bigtime to help out Mclame and basically killed any early momentum for Hayworth... thanks sarah.
Ah yes, McCain and the Politicians that enable him - Politics as usual, I'd say.
