“But for the media to declare his career over because of bad words said? Silly”
If Mel wants to work, he can work.
However, I’m not sure Americans want to see a film staring a man who goes on Anti-Semitic rants, and tells the mother of his child that she is going to be raped by a bunch of N-Bombs.
You see, we people here in Middle America do not want to support, with our hard earned dollars, a movie or an actor with such foibles.
My Father said to me I would rather see you dead! than with a :N-Bombs. But you know he still kept his JOB and people still hired him because of his work...

If Silence of the Lambs is remade, Mel will be offered the role of Hannibal Lecter.
We shall see.
My suspicion is that such "foibles" are overlooked when/if someone does a great movie. If Gibson is still up to it, he will draw an audience even in middle America.
Actual murder, rape, etc. Now those might be "foibles" that people will close their wallet to.
Now, now. Let's not misrepresent ourselves, let alone presume to speak for a group so clearly a mystery to you.
