The selective modesty of Barack Obama

By Charles Krauthammer Friday, July 9, 2010

Remember NASA? It once represented to the world the apogee of American scientific and technological achievement. Here is President Obama's vision of NASA's mission, as explained by administrator Charles Bolden: "One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math; he wanted me to expand our international relationships; and third and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science and math and engineering."

As long as you keep your head buried in the sand, things will remain the same.

You could have saved yourself a LOT of typing (and JimRob’s bandwidth) by simply saying “You’re wrong, Dusty, I LIKE the status quo”.

The fact, Rock, is this - The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. If we never take the step, we never start the journey and we’ll never understand why we were unable to reach our destination.

Lots of people on this site have told me how wrong I was. I’m still here. Some of them are; some have gone away and some have copme to discover that I know what I’m talking about.

“to be paid and not to work is a sin” Ann Rand would agree?

She would most certainly agree. However, I don't agree that we have become a nation of slackers. I will concede that we have created a certain class of people who are satisfied to live off of the efforts of others and not contribute. But, if you look out your window every morning Mon. - Fri., all those vehicles are the road aren't being driven by slackers. They are being driven by people like you and I who are going to work, earning money and trying to improve life for ourselves and our children.

When government gets out of the way, capitalism works exceptionally well. Those who disagree have no comprehension of human nature; something that the Founders understood quite well. Humans naturally WANT to own things and they naturally want to be able to improve the quality of their lives. These are also principles that Rand grasped quite well, having escaped from communist Russia. As long as there are those with an entitlement mentality and a political class willing to pander to them, we will have the slackers among us. But, those slackers do not comprise the majority of Americans and, God willing, they are headed for a giant wakeup call in the forseeable future (but I doubt it!).

But....it seems more and more people would rather have the gov’t take care of them and vote in politicians who make promises to them

There are always going to be those with an entitlement mentality as long as there are politicians to pander to them. While it seems that there is a large segment of people in our society that are willing to live off of the efforts of others, the fact is that they remain a very small minority.

The fact is that living off of the table scraps of the government seems like a great deal at first - until you see that the housing you get from the government is pretty rundown and nasty; and the car you can afford (IF you can afford one) didn't roll off the assembly line in the decade you are living in; and the food you can afford doesn't support a regular diet of steak and lobster, nor the healthcare to support that kind of diet.

Eventually, living like that gets old and you either get out after awhile, or you get caught up in drugs and alcohol - thereby making you a permanent member of the non-contributor class.

Zero won for one reason and one reason only - the DBM. The DBM had run a non-stop campaign against Bush and the Republicans from the beginning. And, as the election of '08 drew nigh, the DBM shot down all of the legitimate contenders for president from the GOP other than McCain and they knew that McCain was not the candidate to represent the conservatives. They also conspired to ignore and overlook the gaps in zero's background that are rising in importance today. They did no fact checking to determine what skeletons he was hiding, nor did they do the most rudimentary research on to him to determine if he was the real deal or not. Now that the wool has been pulled from America's eyes and they are seeing him for what and who he is, the bloom is off the rose. And the DBM, along with the Dems will take the fall for it in November. The big question is, though, can we get enough qualified, real conservatives to replace the Dems and RINOs to make a difference? I'm betting that we can't!!

And, though wounded, zero will continue to wreck and ruin this country. The legislative process will not help us rid the country of zero and his communist policies and Congress will NOT take the steps necessary to roll back any of zero's policies. They'll do what they always do - a little Show 'n Tell, a little Smoke 'n Mirrors and Bingo Bango, America has been suckered yet again and thinks that all is well. Meanwhile, zero's communism will continue to destroy this country unimpeded.

Yeah, good luck with that. Rememeber that NZ wanted to tax farmers for the methane gas emissions when their cows farted.

Greenhouse gas emissions and Glow Bull Warming!!

As long as you keep your head buried in the sand, things will remain the same.

My head isn't buried in the sand, you have allies in the legislatures, removing them may introduce a new enemy in that very district.

“You’re wrong, Dusty, I LIKE the status quo”.

Well that's not true, I don't like the status quo, but I think punishing your friends is moronic.

The fact, Rock, is this

The fact "Dusty" is this: You're a condescending bigot.

The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step

Removing every incumbent from every legislature is not a single step. It's also not possible.

Lots of people on this site have told me how wrong I was.

They were correct.

I’m still here.

Did they try to get rid of you?

some have copme to discover that I know what I’m talking about.

Well, I'll "copme" to believe it when this election cycle replaces every incumbent up for election.

Get back to me after your big victory in November.

Removing every incumbent from every legislature is not a single step. It's also not possible.

You're a hoot, dude. And, I LOVE your "condescending bigot" comment. So, now I'm a racist!!???

Things are "impossible" if you believe they are. People once believed that man would never fly. Fast forward to today. Once man started flying, they believed that they could never fly into or through clouds. Fast forward to today. They once believed that man would never step off of this planet. Go back to July, 1969. They once believed that buildings could not be built any higher than 3 stories.

The fact is that a lot of the things people used to believe were impossible, are possible, because time and technology made them possible.

Yes, Rock, I am aware that we aren't going to replace the entire Congress this November (I'm not nearly as stupid as you think I am), but if we never take the first step towards that goal, we'll never accomplish the goal. Is it going to be easy or simple? No. Too many voters like you are accustomed to going into the voting booth and putting a check mark against the same name that they have been putting check marks next to for years. WV and MA are two states that are still suffering from the fact that there won't be a Byrd or a Kennedy on the ballot for them to re-elect.

Impossible things can happen if you believe they will and you work to make them happen.

However, I don't want you to do anything, Rock. Stay on the sidelines and let the rest of us do the heavy lifting for you. Because, at the end ofr the day, if you don't think that we can get rid of the garbage in the Congress, then you ARE satisfied with the status quo, whether you believe it or not.

Since you are full of negativity and just want to throw stones, you need not reply. It is apparent that we are not going to change each other's opinions. Thank you for an interesting discussion.

You're a hoot, dude.

So what are you going to do...shoot em?

I LOVE your "condescending bigot" comment. So, now I'm a racist!!???

A bigot isn't a racist...don't you have a dictionary?

I am aware that we aren't going to replace the entire Congress this November (I'm not nearly as stupid as you think I am)

Well, that's what you said. If you don't mean it, don't say it. It makes you look stupid.

Too many voters like you are accustomed to going into the voting booth and putting a check mark against the same name that they have been putting check marks next to for years

Well that certainly isn't my voting habit. The conservatives I vote for usually lose.

Stay on the sidelines and let the rest of us do the heavy lifting for you.

Oh, I've done my share of heavy lifting, I live in a communist blue state and I'm taking a well deserved break. But you're welcome to take a shot at it.

if you don't think that we can get rid of the garbage in the Congress

I don't think that at all, but you are suggesting getting rid of every incumbent. That's not the same thing.

Since you are full of negativity and just want to throw stones

I'm not full of negativity. I just think it's asinine to suggest wasting time and talent throwing conservatives out of office.

Is that how you'd fight a war...kill all the soldiers on the battlefield...both sides?

Brilliant!
