Christie took early control on budget

Gov. Christie got the state budget he wanted, and now he's trying to blunt the effects of his severe cuts to towns and school districts.

Using his flair for the dramatic, the governor called New Jersey legislators to a special session during this July Fourth holiday weekend.

Their mission: Put a 2.5 percent lid on local spending, so that if local authorities want to spend more, they will have to ask voters' permission.

New Jersey residents, Christie said in a speech to the Legislature on Thursday, "can't be bound, gagged, and forced to endure ever-higher taxes without their consent."

A polished politician, Christie has molded the state's lingering fiscal crisis into a fiscal conservative's march through Trenton.

Explaining his call for the special session, he said, "I have called you back to Trenton during this summer holiday period, when many escape to the beach or the mountains, because for New Jersey taxpayers, there has been no escape. . . . We do not deserve a break when these taxes are breaking the backs of our families."

He began laying the groundwork for the austere budget months ago, and has been using high-profile venues to become the loudest voice in the room in the debate over it.

He was on Hannity the other night and Hannity noted that Christie is losing weight..good for him! He said he’s doing it to be there for his kids, I think he has four.

Somebody told me that her brother’s property tax in N.J. is $16,000. He’s nearly 70 and can’t retire because of it.

Right.

But BELIEVE ME, there are LOT of pro-gun people in New Jersey.

My guess is ALL of them voted for Chistie as Corzine was FEROCIOUSLY anti-Second Amendment.

And believe me also - NEARLY ALL of them won’t be voting for him again next time with his betrayal of us via Paula Dow. (Probably courtesy of that s.o.b. Tom Kean, the biggest RINO in New Jersey and VERY anti-gun.)

The election was a near thing for him, and without those pro-Second Amendment votes, his political goose in New Jersey is cooked.

The guy isn't perfect on all of the issues, but at least he really does have NJ’s best interest at heart. Especially when it comes to taxes. He is trying to stop the bloodletting of our citizens and the wasteful spending of the politicians. That's a damned good start!

ToM Kean - oh God. Another RINO like the Jeb Bush clan pulling the strings in FL. I hear you about pro-gun people in Jersey. Lot of rural folks in NJ like that.

I like Christie but Schundler is probably better. I wish Christie would FULLY embrace The Constitution especially the #2 part and not be pro open border.

I mean geez - The Battle of Trenton was pivotal in founding the country and has probably the most famous painting of The Revolutionary War.

Christie - turn off that Bruce Springsteen sh*t and remember that if those citizen soldiers had not had guns - they never would have won The Battle of Trenton If you had skipped about 4 dozen dopey concerts, read even the Cliff Notes on The Revolutionary War you might get it on guns. Stay home, read the books and listen to something good like Southside Johnny. ;-)

Rubio is not against the AZ law. He had the same concerns with it that the AZ legislature did, which is why they amended the law 9 days after passing it.

Rubio is a solid conservative. Mel Martinez 2? In liberals’ dreams.
