This is why I strongly feel that we need mandatory standardized testing for all levels of education, including ‘higher education’. If someone holds themselves up as an expert, and uses this designation to promote their own writings etc., then they should have to prove they actually know something.
Publishing is not enough. Peer review is in many ways a joke, and does not prove knowledge.
I also strongly believe that all university students should be required to take standardized ‘exit’ tests in their field of study, and these should be used to evaluate not only what they learned, but should be used to determine if ‘elite’ colleges actually deserve those titles.
