New GOP group plans to spend millions this fall

WASHINGTON — In a campaign season of anti-establishment ferment, some of the Republican Party's best-known insiders are building an ambitious fundraising machine for the fall elections and beyond.

They started with a bang in April, cashing a $1 million check from a Texas oil magnate. After a quiet May, friends and foes are watching to see if the new organization's core group, American Crossroads, can reach its goal of raising $52 million by November.

Karl Rove, who was President George W. Bush's top political strategist, and Ed Gillespie, a former Republican Party chairman and White House aide, modeled their network on successful operations created by Democrats several years ago.

American Crossroads is a 527 organization — named for a section in the tax law — that is exempt from limits on campaign fundraising and spending that apply to party-affiliated groups. It can tap rich conservatives, such as Trevor Rees-Jones, president of Dallas-based Chief Oil and Gas, who chipped in the first $1 million.

But eyebrows rose in political circles when the group filed its next monthly report with the Internal Revenue Service, showing only $200 raised in May.

These people just don’t get it (the “Republican Establishment”) they’re never going to raise millions from the base unless they are-Diametrically OPPOSED to everything socialist that has destroyed this nation in the last 60 years..! (AKA I don’t trust Karl Rove and the rest of the Republican “insiders” to really support conservative candidates)!

I support any effort to get rid of the socialists. However, I do wish that ‘new blood’ would replace the ‘old’ stooges that set up the socialist take-over.

More of the Rovian triangulation strategy. It’s about maintaining the statists and not actually fixing anything aka ‘Rat Lite.

Suggestion for Mr. Rove: Lay out plans to support CONSERVATIVE ideas and candidates, then let the Republicans decide whether they want to come under that umbrella, or not.

The R party used to be the standard-bearer for conservatism. Maybe they will be again, but they’re doing to have to prove it, and Karl Rove ought to know that.

“Karl Rove, who was President George W. Bush’s top political strategist, and Ed Gillespie, a former Republican Party chairman”

Two names that do not inspire confidence.

These are the kind of guys that would have backed Snarlin’ Arlen Specter over Toomey.

Still, if they’re going to raise and contribute big bucks, I would rather them be making contributions in the generals rather the primaries. I just wonder how much they would spend on someone like Sharon Angle in Nevada as opposed to someone like Fiorini in Mexifornia or Kirk in Illinois.

Not if the democrats get their way. This is exactly what they're trying to prevent with the Disclose Act.

Steven Law, a former U.S. Chamber of Commerce lawyer and now president of American Crossroads, said the group has about $30 million in pledges that Rove, Gillespie and others secured during recent trips to various cities.

And American Crossroads, however, seems to have no qualms about backing tea party favorites. Among its first actions was spending $360,000 on TV ads in Nevada criticizing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who faces tea party-backed Republican Sharron Angle this fall.

Rove and other old Bush hands are not the ones I'd want influencing any Republican primaries. If they'll hold their fire and the dollars until after various primaries, and only work to help Republicans who are opposing Dims, then it might be beneficial. But we sure don't need this bunch influencing what candidates Republican voters choose in primaries, or what platform candidates run on.

Lift all drilling bans. Tax petroleum imports and exports. Reopen Utah's coal for mining. Ban gov't support for NGOs, "art" organizations, PBS, NPR, etc. Build the border wall with Mexico. Round up and deport all illegals, and fine all companies that employed them (getting them to go along with the fine by threatening to investigate and prosecute the perps if they don't agree). Ban immigration by Moslems. Ban the burqa and any other asshole muzzie face covering. Ban those amplified "call to prayer" POSes under existing noise laws. Tax Islam to death as a political and non-religious movement (which it is), then reclassify each mosque as a terrorist organization. Repeal Obamacare. Repeal whatever cap-and-tax bulls- the Demwits pass. Pass a Constitutional amendment to give the President line item veto -- to become effective no earlier than March 2013, unless Obama is reelected, then effective March 2017.

Interesting. I'm a little worried about the president of the new group being the former head of the US Chamber of Comemrce. Between he and Rove we're suffering from the drugs and gangs and criminals that have invaded Arizona.

I'm not sure I trust them.

Millions? Budget dust.

The Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) has billions left in that bogus stimulus plan to buy 2010 and 2012.

I think you guys are right.
This doesn't sound like a "new GOP group" to me.
Somebody's smearing lipstick all over that decrepit old pig again.

Republicans and Tea Partiers need to be careful of masked progressives of both parties..

Wouldn't hurt if all republican hopeful candidates are asked...
ARE YOU A PROGRESSIVE?... (wait for the response or non answer) and the answer logged and noted..

McLame and Graham certainly are progressives..
You can tell by how they blend so easily with democrats..

Democrats ought to be asked also.. with some its obvious with others they are hiding.. (masked)..
If this is done, soon they will adopt another mask other than the word progressive... we need to be ready for that too..

The word progressive needs to fully outed... as the regression that it is..
