Breaking News: Economy Grows by 2.7 Percent in First Quarter, Slower Than Previously Estimated
(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com ...
How would buying more govt debt help? The real tools of interest rates and tax cuts are off the table. All expanding quantitative easing does is speed up the day our bond rating goes down the tube.
Even with house and senate, there is no passing an extension of the tax cuts with Obama having a veto pen. There is no derailing anything, really, unless you’re talking veto-proof majorities, and in the GOP that means counting rino’s as democrats.
The economic outlook is bleak. The spiritual outlook is bleaker.
Holy cow, weaker consumer spending? How can that be when the unemployment and the percent of unemployed giving up looking for a job rate keeps going up?
What is needed is a new calulator to match the New Math. It would make 2+3=6.
You're right, but a couple things are possible. The best scenario is the margin is so great that the Rats that are left will vote to override a veto in which case the 0 agenda not only gets defunded, but abolished. The more likely scenario is the fiscal hawks defund the 0 agenda, but can't override his veto. In the latter case business will see that 0 will be gone in 2 yrs and no damage will be done. The tax hikes will hurt in the short turn, but the economy will start to improve.
The economic outlook is bleak.
It can change. Right now everyone is in a holding pattern and we will see if people have wised up or not. I think they will.
The spiritual outlook is bleaker.
I'm afraid you are so right. One side of this we never discuss is how our decline as a Christian nation increases the economic decline and makes it that much harder to recover economically.
Spiritual strength enables one not be be threatened by a world in which some are gifted to produce, others to plan, others to labor, etc.
Spiritual strength realizes that covetousness destroys both initiative and advancement.
Spiritual strength ONLY comes froma Judeo-Christian worldview.
Amen
I'm also thinking along the lines of personal responsibility and the need to be a good witness by your behavior. IOW, are you hard working, responsible, pay your debts, instead of looking to take from someone else to subsidize your irresponsible behavior. An economy grows when the populace acts like adults instead of children. When we reveal our faith by our behavior we act like adults.
Probably why liberalism goes out of it's way to diminish the role of parents.
AMEN!
Which is exactly how God intends it.
How much of the “growth” was from government spending?
These numbers generally mean nothing. They are lies made up by bureaucrats to serve the ruling elites of the day.
However, as time goes on, they might get closer to the truth. The truth is that the growth numbers were inflated in the past to make Zero’s reign look better than it is to those who want to see economic growth. (As opposed to Ears and his inner circle, who don’t care about the little guy, but just acquiring more and more power.)
What remains to be seen is how much lower it will be estimated in coming quarters.
But aren’t we all shocked that the government routinely lies?
IIRC during GWB’s 8 years, initial estimates were almost always worse than the actual numbers that came out later. Corrections were hidden in the last paragraphs of the article headlined by the next type of poor estimates. We read about a “jobless” recovery for several years because jobs weren’t being created fast enough, though unemployment was under 5%. I hate the deceiving DBM.
I think one of the problems with “growth” that the left has is they feel such growth will encroach upon poor Bambi and Thumper. And we can’t have that, can we?
I [day]dreamed that I was able to meet the White House press corpse [sic] and challenge them to pretend for one day that they were questioning a spokesman for Bush43. I asked them to phrase all their questions about “progress” in the Gulf States in the same adversarial way that they did to Scott McLellan and Tony Snow.
They mean “unexpectedly,” right? Oh, and it’s Bush’s fault.
That will stay just a dream.
