What else was 0bama supposed to do? The military is supposed to be subordinate to the president, no matter who that happens to be. If the president had left such a general in place then it would have only emboldened more dissent from within.
McChrystal knew full well that what was said had the potential to end his career. 0bama did the right thing by relieiving him of command.
No, he could have reprimanded him and sent him back to Afghanistan. Not everything is a firing offense, and Obama just got through telling us what a great job McChrystal was doing.

I agree with you. McChrystal knew full well this would happen. So the question becomes, why would he fall on his sword this way? This was an incredibly daring move.
Some have questioned McChrystal’s decision to go to Rolling Stone... would he really go to the lame stream media? Think about that.
I am wondering how bad things really are and how much is going on behind the scenes for the General to step up this way. He certainly made a supreme sacrifice, and it wasn’t out of stupidity or naivity, but a desperate move by a courageous and honorable man. Too bad there aren’t too many of those around anymore.
