PRETORIA, South Africa – Landon Donovan scored in the first minute of stoppage time off a rebound, advancing the United States to the second round at the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Algeria.

With the U.S. perhaps three minutes from elimination, Jozy Altidore was stopped on a breakaway by goalkeeper Rais Bolihi. Donovan hustled in and kicked in the rebound to win Group C Wednesday.

I’ve seen NASCAR fans. Many of them are depraved threats.

"By the way, are you German? A U.S. Marine from Germany, perhaps?"

Half my ancestors were but I'm 100% American. I would feel much better about my country's chances in this world cup if I were Germany than England. Historically, Germany has a habit of kicking England's ass until the Americans come to the rescue.

BTW, I love how you dodge the whole original argument. I guess you're just not man enough to admit that I was right. It's a lot easier to just denigrate me than face my actual arguments and reasoning. You certainly have lived up to your moniker lrudeboy...

No matter how many ways you describe it, disliking soccer because other countries opposed us during the Iraq War is simply stupid. That’s my only point: disliking soccer is fine by me. Making-up excuses, whining about it, and passing it of as BS is not. Man up, already.

What’s funny to me is I make a statement about the only thing that ticks me off is how the rest of the worlds press (and some soccer maniacs here) constantly puts America down because we don’t watch soccer.

Got any examples of soccer maniacs here constantly putting America down? Or are you just making stuff up as you go along?

I see NASCAR threads here all the time but never post in them. NASCAR doesn’t interest me at all. For the life of me I can’t see why anyone would want to see someone drive in an oval 500 times, unless they are wanting to see wrecks. But I don’t go and proclaim my apathy to the sport on those threads.

It's a weird pathology. And then complain that you are being mistreated and that NASCAR is being pushed down your throat.

Show me where I ever talked about the Iraq War? I never did. You really know how to twist my words!! You did not even comprehend what I did not like. I don't like soccer because I find it boring and not a lot of offense. My complaint about the rest of the world had nothing to do with Iraq.

It just shows that you never read the link I posted or comprehend what I said. I don't like how the rest of the world (and many soccer nuts in our own country) tries to force soccer on America and their columnists chastise us and lambast us because we don't care about it. Like they are holier than thou and know what's best for us. Why should I be surprised when you screw up again.

Well, I gave you one of an English columnist that put us down because we don't care about soccer. I guess that wasn't good enough for you so you went on to my example of soccer maniacs here. That's fine, I actually prove my points, unlike you. If you would have actually read and comprehended what I was posting earlier you would have noticed that I said previously how I hear people calling into radio talk shows and getting on sports fans about not liking soccer. A couple weeks ago I was just talking with someone who was trying to force soccer on me. The columnists in America do not do that. I never said they did. At least I have never read a column like that from here so there is nothing on the web that I'm aware of from an American columnist.

And, interestingly enough, he doesn't "put us down" in the column.

A couple weeks ago I was just talking with someone who was trying to force soccer on me.
Then that person is an idiot. And if you started on the Afganistan-stuff, that person met his match.

Can someone please explain one thing to a total soccer novice? As I understand it a soccer game has two 45 minute halves. Yet the U.S. scored at almost the 91 minute mark. What gives with that?

The referee has the discretion to add “extra time” in order to account for stoppage of play. It is announced as the game draws to a close. In this case, he had added four minutes.

Then you either have blinders on or as I suspect you just don't want to admit that I made my point. That's fine. Also you've been attacking me this whole thread when all I did was start off by saying that I don't like soccer and I don't like how it's always forced on people in America. You've attacked me for my opinion and made my point about how people try to force soccer down my throat. You've been doing it this whole thread. My first post I even mentioned about how I'm happy for soccer lovers in America that the U.S. won. I have no ill will towards U.S. soccer fans, yet somehow people like you have to attack those of us who don't like soccer.

Can't let you get away with it, sorry. If you want to argue that the columnist "put us down," you have to show where he does so. Stop being such a crybaby about it.

With regard to the general state of your mental health, have you considered why you feel that your personal decision whether to like a sport or not must be determined by other countries' foreign policies, or what columnists may or may not write in publications you never read?

"Sorry, you said “Afghanistan,” and not “Iraq.” Sue me."

If I could sue you for being wrong on this thread towards me, you'd be broke. Here, you are wrong again. This is what I said concerning Afghanistan.

What I can't stand is when the rest of the world continues to look down on us because they all know better than us what we should do in Afghanistan, watch as sport etc... Its the same pious attitude...

If you had proper reading comprehension, you would deduct from this that Afghanistan is part of a list of things that a lot of the world looks down on us for, just like they do for soccer. That's the point I was trying to make. Not that they rip on us about soccer because of what we did in Afghanistan. That would be an idiotic statement. I was equating their pious attitude being the same in both instances. Telling us what to do in Afghanistan, telling us what sport is best for us to watch etc..

Dude, you need a lesson in reading comprehension. I suspect that is why you have attacked me almost from the beginning. You have misunderstood what I have been saying.

So when you associated sport with Afghanstan, you didn't associate sport with Afghanistan? Nice.

How far in advance does he have to announce it, and does the ref have to do it to begin with? Could the ref just said "Time's expired. Tied game" at the 90 minute mark and left it at that regardless of stoppages? Is it that arbitrary? And say someone is injured during the extra time, can they add more time to the game to account for it? And if a team is trailing late in a game is it to their advantage to fake an injury to get some additional time?

Like I said, total soccer novice here.

"If you want to argue that the columnist "put us down," you have to show where he does so."

Dude, I'm not going to re-write what I wrote many posts ago and re-post the article link. You claimed I'm lazy, your lazy and have no reading comprehension. Go re-read post 133 of mine to you and you will have your answers.

"With regard to the general state of your mental health, have you considered why you feel that your personal decision whether to like a sport or not must be determined by other countries' foreign policies,"

Again, poor reading comprehension on your part does not mean I have to re-post something over and over. Please go back and read what I wrote just a few short posts ago and it will explain it all to you. I don't like soccer because its too low scoring, not enough offense and most of the time boring. The foreign policy thing was amply explained just a few short posts ago. Again, reading comprehension, get some of it.

You either have poor reading comprehension or just don't want to understand what I've been saying. For one thing, you thought I was talking about Iraq when I never mentioned Iraq. That right there tells me you are a lazy reader. When you get better reading skills, talk to me. I tire of explaining these things to you over and over. You are like soccer, boring....
