PRETORIA, South Africa Landon Donovan scored in the first minute of stoppage time off a rebound, advancing the United States to the second round at the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Algeria.
With the U.S. perhaps three minutes from elimination, Jozy Altidore was stopped on a breakaway by goalkeeper Rais Bolihi. Donovan hustled in and kicked in the rebound to win Group C Wednesday.

“Thanks to illegal immigration.” - I am convinced that is a big part of the growth of soccer. Living in S TX, it is sometimes hard to put up with the attitude the messkins (legal and not) around here have regarding soccer. They seem to think that soccer is ‘their’ sport; USA Anglos need not apply. Mexico is ‘their’ team. And when one politely suggests they go live there so they can really support their team, you get every answer from ‘make me’ to ‘FU gringo’. I guess that like most of the folks that invade our country daily and the muslim infestation already present, they are not here to assimilate. (No DUH!)

Boring and good news! I take it you didn't watch the game, then? "Boring" would not be a realistic description of the match -- it was high-energy, very nail-biting. Lots of chances both ways (though more for the US).

Coming to a Pro-Soccer thread looking for Anti-Soccer types really shows your intelligence, huh?

That was part of a series a few years back on famous photos recreated in Lego. I just happened to remember that one.

Other than for WC qualifiers, the Mexican national team pretty much plays all of their “home” games here in the US now.

Breaking news? Soccer? Who cares.

Is that the ref warming up for the Australia match? It'll be interesting to see if they can finish a game with 11 still on the field.

Nope, but I am glad that USA is advancing though.

Is Cahill back for this game?

Coming to a Pro-Soccer thread looking for Anti-Soccer types really shows your intelligence, huh? I wouldn't broach the subject of intelligence if I am you. I'm on a soccer thread because I like soccer. Ever hear of Occam's Razor?

"Do you need to show us on this doll where the LA Times writer touched you?"
Do you need to show us on this doll????? Am I detecting a British type of English word there? I don't know what a doll is other than a playtoy for little girls but in American English that statement makes no sense. So I must be posting to an Englishman. Now the light begins to shine. So now we see who has the reall thin skin. Someone who can't take his beloved sport being criticized. I've posted the parts of the article that were appropriate to the point I was making and now all you can do is try to attack me.
Okay Englishman, you are probably the exact type of person I am talking about. Why don't these limey American bastards like soccer eh? Don't they know what's good for them??? No thanks Englishman. No matter how many insults you throw at me, you've been found out.

If Australia and Ghana win, that would make the Anglosphere 4 for 4 on the day.

Is Cahill back for this game? As long as he can keep his temper in check.

Cahill has a temper? What ever would make you think that?

Do you need to show us on this doll????? Am I detecting a British type of English word there? I don't know what a doll is other than a playtoy for little girls but in American English that statement makes no sense. I'm an American, and I get the reference: it refers to child sexual abuse cases, where the investigators ask a child to show them, on a doll, where the "bad person" touched them. A child is more likely to do that than to show the spot on their own body, and they certainly don't want to force a child to have to describe the assault in words. The third-party aspect of a doll allows them to be psychologically detached from their own description of the event.

Here’s another interesting tidbit, it could very well turn out that all but one of the teams from the Americas (Honduras), could make the Final 16.
