And by “costly” he means it will cut hand outs, which will “cost” Democrats votes.

...tax increases will eventually be necessary to address the nation's mounting debt...I hope that the Democrats campaign on this for the next three years. If the Dems don't will any Republicans try to tie the Dems to their promise of tax increases?

There is nothing “moderate” about this guy. He is, like almost all Democrats, Liberal. Liberal means tax increases are always the answer.

STOP PENDING! My 3 year old grandson will tell you that.
These people are fools. Will this senator tell HIS kids to go deeper in debt when they are in trouble with money?

RE :”
In the shorter term, Hoyer raised the possibility that Congress will only temporarily extend middle-class tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year. He pointedly suggested that making them permanent would be too costly. “
Didnt Obama himself recently cynically claim that Tea Party protesters should be happy for him by ‘cutting’ their taxes? Didnt Obama promise over and over NOT to raise our taxes?

At my previous job, one of my supervisors was a hardcore Obama fan. Hardcore. I told him that our taxes would go up under Obama, as they always do under Dem rule. He claimed "only the rich" would be taxed at a higher rate. I bet him $100, and we shook on it.
He later claimed to have no memory of this bet.

A permanent congressional seat by Steny is too costly.

A tax increase will be countered by increased spending, so the net gain will end up a negative anyway. There is no good reason to tax people more except for the motive of stealing from the citizenry that make the economy (what’s left of it) actually run.

Now thats a winning campaign slogan. Way to go Steny.

Big campaign commercial against the Dems on this one. The middle class needs to vote all of the bums out.

Here's my dumb question of the day: If it's fiscally sensible to extend these tax cuts, then why did the Bush administration include the 2011 "sunset" provision when it proposed these tax cuts in the first place?
