Sarah Palin: Smoking Pot Is No Big Deal
AOL ^ | 6/18/10 | Mara Gay

Posted on 06/19/2010 9:13:23 AM PDT by nmh

Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

...

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."

Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.

"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

What do you disagree with here?

Let's see if I can make Palin's quote more to your liking by reversing its salient points:

"I don't think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts. If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then our cops should focus on that instead of trying to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."

Do you like that better?

And where in this quote did she say "smoking pot is no big deal?"

PDS trolls are transparent, predictable and stupid.

I agree smoking pot makes someone a loser only because I live next to a pot head....when the guy smokes it up at night it’s more than disgusting walking into my bathroom in the morning...it comes right thru the walls somehow.... That stuff stinks to no end!

You convientantly left off the first part of her quote so I'll do the honors here:

"Palin said that while SHE DOESN'T BELIEVE MARIJUANA SHOULD BE LEGALIZED, the country has bigger fish to fry."

That does raise the question if it’s legalized how will it affect drug-testing requirements?...and then people will be taking pot breaks at work instead of smoke breaks..

. Most smoke it every day. I know because I have fired enough of them over 30 years

I know the guy next door does everyday. I often wonder what his temperment would be if he wasn't smoking pot. In his 30's, he seems detached when you talk with him although very mellow.

Marijuana is a gateway drug.

Nonsense. There's no such thing as a "gateway" drug. That's been disabused since way back in the 80's. Honest.

Oh my gosh! That happened to you? I never smoked pot but have seen people who have done so. Most could care less about having conversation, they are in their own world...they might as well go to bed in how they look and act. But that’s just those I have seen. They just seem flatlined. Come to think of it I’ve only seen two people after they’ve smoked pot.

My neighbor is without his drivers license for a year...smoking pot and drinking while driving. So pot is not harmless in that it would impair ones driving I would imagine....

Morality should be and IS legislated. Society has deemed it worthy to do so

Now that is something I have considered at length. Though I am opposed to governments interferance in our private life it seems that freedom with responsibility is a thing of the past. Every man does do his own thing without thought to his fellow man. Thus forcing a strong hand to 'regulate' the irresponsible but it's always at the expense of the freedoms for those who are responsible. It's a no win for either side.

Its not just your depth perception while partaking, its you cognitive abilities afterwards, your depth perception, your recovery times, your affected motiviations, your acuity of thought, your short term memory, etc.......All anti -intuitive anecdotes aside, I think we can agree its basically a drug that directly affects and alters the neurons in the brain. Not a trivial indulgence

Interesting post when one isn't exactly familiar with how pot affects someone physically. Does seem allot more to this then people want to admit.

I think if it’s legalized then those who have been selling it will turn to something else and push that...likely one of the more deadly drugs..and then we’ll have a far far more serious problem.

Wow! a response to my post (not even to you) in March 2011!
Are you trying to keep this thread going, or what?
BTW, no need to respond to me by September 2011.

It also makes no sense to fill our jails and prisons with minor pot offenses like “intent to sell” (class B felony I believe) just because you have an ounce or more.

If someone is stupid enough to drive around with 2 or 3 ounces of pot and get pulled over, fine the crap out of them. Don’t put them in the court system.

In Tennessee, a lot of those minor infractions are treated like driving drunk and those caught go through the same punishment as drunk driving. Suspension of drivers license, community service or three days in “jail” (it is more like large dorm and you are forced to work there or on a road crew), etc.

Besides illegal aliens, jails are too full with these minor offenses.

Off the point - one about jails. Why can’t we just triple the number of prisoners by doing what the military does on ships and subs? Eight hours sleep, Eight hours schooling or vocational training, Eight hours work. Allow some time not sleeping for hygiene and eating of course.

They could house three inmates per bed. I know, it’s “cruel” but good enough for our troops?

Not my experience. Most I knew, including me, that smoked in college got real talkative.

Had some of my best discussions on economics and Reagan (it was 1977-1982) with my economic professors in grad school while drinking a few beers and smoking a few bong hits.

Beyond the tangents, we got real deep! lol

Well 'that combination' might just make one more talkative. But those I saw just were disconnected and in their own head zone....occassionally laughing but not talkative in the least.
