BP is one of the largest investors of alternative energy in the world
British Petroleum, with corporate offices located in Chicago (BP Chemicals, in Warrenville, Ill.), is one of the biggest participants in the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). The CCX was created in large part through grants issued by the Joyce Foundation, when Obama was on the board of that foundation. Reliable sources have also reported that it was Obama who wrote the statutes of the CCX.
Like CCX, the ECX has about 80 member companies, including Barclays, BP, Calyon, Endesa, Fortis, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Shell, and ECX has contracted with the European Union to further develop a futures market in carbon trading.
