On the 56th day of the worst environmental disaster in U.S. History, a group of conservationists and scientists are calling on President Barack Obama to fire Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
The letter, signed by more than 100 groups and individuals, doesn't blame the former U.S. Senator from Colorado for all the corruption and other problems that have plagued the Interior Department and predate his tenure as Secretary; instead, it blames him for failing to clean it all up as he promised to do when he took over.
"We think that Ken Salazar's time is up," said Nicole Rosmarino, with WildEarth Guardians, which authored the letter mailed to the White House Monday.

While Rosmarino's letter has not been signed by any of the larger environmental groups like the Sierra Club, it marks a departure from the mainstream environmental movement's low-key reaction to the crisis.
An advertisement paid for by environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, will appear in the Washington Post Tuesday thanking -- yes, thanking -- Obama for putting a drilling project in Alaska on hold, this as oil continued to spill into the Gulf. Sierra Club chairman Carl Pope told a Maine newspaper last week that Obama is, in his view, the "best environmental president since Teddy Roosevelt."
Had such a spill taken place on a Republican president's watch, environmentalists would likely have already unleashed their unholy wrath on both the president and his deputies.
While major environmental groups may be so beholden to the administration to help usher through their agenda that they're afraid to criticize Obama or Salazar too harshly, smaller groups -- the Andean Tapir Fund, Canadian Horse Defence Coalition and Prairie Dog Action are among those calling for Salazar's scalp -- are no longer holding back.

Fire him, banish him, burn him at the stake. PLEASE do NOT send him back to Colorado!
Every one of these so-called “environmental” groups are neo-Nazi nature worship cults.
Ken and I were neighbors on our family farms, attended the same school and were in the same classes, trust me he is not dumb.
You don't graduate from UM's law school if you are an idiot.
Just my .2 worth!
I have always and continue to think of him as Tonto. When he was in the House, he never did a damn thing, and he continued that practice in the Senate. Please list his accomplishments, other than getting himself elected to office. John is just as useless.
You said he was dumb, your words not mine. IMO he doesn't belong in politics, but he is not dumb.
Name any accomplishments anyone in Congress has made, they are all the same.
;) Your point about Congress being an abyss of non-accomplishment is well taken. And when they do do something, it generally makes a bad situation worse. Of course he was Colorado Attorney General, and Romer crony, not a congressman. For some reason he and John blend together in my mind. Would love to get your take on the Bennet-Romanoff goings on.
Hopefully the Repubs gain enough seats in Congress to prevent more junk from being shoved down our throats.
