Any governor is the commander and chief of the National Guard of that state. Why are they waiting on BP?

Because they don’t have the money to pay for it, and because the idiot we have for a President is all bark and no bite toward getting BP to do anything, let alone fork over $100 million to one of the states he supposedly lords over.

The issue is not who controls the National Guard, but federal jurisdiction in waters a certain distance from the shore. Jindal already had the National Guard at work in areas under state jurisdiction, it was in areas under federal jurisdiction that he was trying the push the feds and BP to act.

Why are they waiting?

Because if the President orders the National Guard, then the Fed is responsible for expenses...to include pay. Otherwise, the state pays. Louisiana is a poor state.

But Jindal has taken the step, anyway. Hopefully, Congress will bail him out.

Truth is, they were not awaiting BP, they were waiting for Obama...I had to look to the news source, that explained the discrepancy.

It isn’t BP he’s waiting on! It’s Obama!

Jindal should order his guard to march on DC. We will join them!

Obama tried to tie the hands of the Gulf governors to act on protecting beaches from the oil by envoking federal jurisdiction over the waters.

Glad Jindal finally told BP and Obama (there is no difference politically) to go to hell and stay there.

My guess would be until it comes close enough to shore, it is a fed. issue in a fed regulated area, international waters?

Good for Jindal!!
