IMHO, up until the Obamassiah administration, the rest of the worlds countries SUCKS AT EVERYTHING they attempt in competition with the US...military, economic and way of life.
Soccer is not an American game. Why we even bother to participate in it is nothing more than an attempt to get along and be apart of a sport that they have created into something they think is important because it's "not American".
Soccer to them is basically a "war replacement" competition. They have neither the economic nor intellectual means to compete with us or among themselves on the battlefield and use soccer as a replacement. The game is played out on field, they simply kill each other in the stands.
If they beat Israel or the US in a game of soccer, it makes them feel superior and they think that a soccer victory gives them some kind of "planet cred" as far as a justification for letting them continue their otherwise totally worthless existence and contributions to mankind and the earth in general.
Soccer sucks as a game. Let the rest of the world think it's important. I've got Marxists-Progressives-Socialists trying to persuade me to "like it", when in reality, if they had the chance, they would use me as "Taliban-Soccer-Stadium-Entertainment" on off days the "team" wasn't playing.

I don’t like it, don’t watch, never played, and won’t watch a minute of the world cup, except for what I see on the news. But it is not because of leftists, progressives or commies liking the game, I just don’t like it.
Can we not even leave sports out of our pathological need to see everything in terms of left/right?
Baseball - obviously a lefty game - they provide free passes.
Football - obviously a lefty game - look at all the rules protecting the elite (the qb)
Hockey - obviously a lefty game, they wear ice skates just like those ice dancers at the Olympics (the UN games).

Didn't work for those years they had to suspend the World Cup for WWII. Still, I do agree to that a bit. It is a way to express national pride and competitiveness in a way that for some reason the Olympics can't do. People dance in the streets when their country wins even a quarter-final. People still talk about when their country won the world cup 20+ years ago.

Oh, they do have the means, both intellectual and economic. But why do it when we are still willing to shoulder the lion's share of European defense expenses for them? This is still the continent that produced the likes of Guderian.
You are correct. In fact the “sport” I like best is mixed martial arts, even pro football is getting politically correct. NBA is just wrestling with a ball with the fix in most of the time. Baseball , anything that George Will and other eastern elites refer to in somber “ historic” terms is boring by definition. It’s so boring that the players needed uppers and roids to keep them awake. Hockey is great as a live sport but the tv doesn’t capture the feel and speed very well. Hard to see a puck.
