Would you let your 16 year old sail around the world alone?

If she was properly trained, a good sailor, well prepared with a good boat and safety equipment (weapons, radios, etc.), and we could fit it into school, yeah.

The objective of being a parent is to raise an independent, responsible, happy adult.

But not to keep your kids safe and alive? We will just have to agree to disagree on what makes a responsible parent.

“The objective of being a parent is to raise an independent, responsible, happy adult.”

The key to your statement is “RAISE”. Putting them into needlessly perilous situation with a greater then small expectation of death to make them “independent” is psychotic.

Fine, just don’t cry to me when they end up dead.

What pisses me off about situations like this is now other people have to risk their lives because some idiot wanted to break a record.
