Clyburn says S.C. Dem Senate candidate is a 'plant,' calls for probe

Clyburn says S.C. Dem Senate candidate is a 'plant,' calls for probe By Michael O'Brien - 06/10/10 07:37 AM ET The man nominated as Democrats' candidate for Senate in South Carolina might have been a "plant," a high-ranking Democrat suggested Thursday.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) called on the U.S. Attorney's office in South Carolina to investigate the circumstances that led to Alvin Greene winning the Democratic primary for Senate in the state earlier this week.

"There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary," Clyburn said during an appearance on the liberal Bill Press radio show. "I don't know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone's plant."

The third-ranking House Democrat said he found it strange that Greene, a relative unknown prior to Tuesday, was able to produce the money to register and run for Senate, despite being unemployed. Greene allegedly tried to pay in cash, and Clyburn said he wondered whether or not an outside party might have funded that and Greene's campaign, in violation of federal campaign finance laws.

Despite having no real campaign or prior political support in the state, Greene won the primary to face Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) this fall with nearly 59 percent of the vote -- almost 100,000 votes.

The South Carolina Democratic Party called on Greene on Wednesday to drop out of the race after the Associated Press reported that the candidate is facing felony charges for having allegedly displayed pornographic images to a college student.

Adding to the pressure on Greene was Clyburn's call for the U.S. Attorney to look at the possibility that an outside party might have funded Greene's campaign beyond legally permissible limits, and without having disclosed the source of those payments.

"I would hope the U.S. Attorney down there would look at this," Clyburn said, pointing specifically to Greene's having allegedly tried to pay the fee to run for Senate in cash, despite being unemployed.

"I think there's some federal laws being violated in this race, but I think some shenanigans are going on in South Carolina," Clyburn explained. "Somebody gave him that $10,000 and he who took it should be investigated, and he who gave it should be investigated."

Actually the guy said he cashed in his savings account to enter the race. He is an unemployed Army vet, having recently left the Army after 13 years.

So, the guy used his life savings to be a candidate. Not a crime.

Not being a handpicked-by-the-SC-Democrat-party-negro is what has the Democrat plantation owners in SC up in arms.

Apparently, a black person cannot run in a political race without the approval of the masters.

Big, big, PR disaster for the SC Dems, IMO, if they continue to try and push this man out of the race. He won it fair and square.

New Democrat Jim Crow laws in SC???

This has to be one of the strangest stories to come out of this election season. I hope it has legs.

Yeah, that's him.......”too much sittin’ in that tub while the grits are cookin’ Green”.

My friends in Columbia have pulled out “Let's Stay Together” and dedicated it to Carol Fowler on the radio this am.

It just goes to show that the Dhimmies will vote to elect anyone who runs as a Democrat. Anyone.

...the black elder stated ... “ ya never votes against blood.”

I think this pretty clearly describes what happened in this election. The rats were hoist on their own petard. Sucks to be them.

Another article, found here, gives some more information and raises some other questions.

From that article, apparently the guy was "recently dishonorably discharged" from the Army.

Also, the article raises the question of why did the media hold news of this guy's arrest until the day after the election, and who supplied that tip and the tip about the discharge to the media.

SC Dem shenanigans???

South Carolina Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, Alvin M Greene, holds his own personal copy of his campaign flyer he used to show people he campaigned in Manning, S.C. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Greene won his party's nomination in yesterday's South Carolina primary elections, but has been asked by state Democratic party chairwoman, Carol Fowler to step down. Greene said he is staying in the race and will face incumbent U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint in the November elections.… Read more » (AP Photo/Mary Ann Chastain)

I think this is going to get very interesting. The Dem establishment candidate, Vic Rawls, is (gasp) white. I am betting this is all about racial politics. It probably is a Repub trick of some kind, but it shows that some Dems will vote color over everything else.

This may end up being the story of the season - unless the accomplice media decides to bury it. It will be embarrassing to the Dems, no matter who is behind it.

Hello.

It’s very simple. He was the Black candidate in the race. The other White candidates split the Dem vote.

It’s the truth but dare we say it!

Another article here gives more information...

The Army said Wednesday that Greene, from Manning, S.C., was discharged in August 2009 after being promoted to specialist. He served three years as a supply technician, including a tour in South Korea from June 2007 to July 2008. He last served with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan.

Greene's military records also show he served in the South Carolina Air National Guard from July 1995 to June 2002, and in the South Carolina Army National Guard from July 2006 to February 2007.

B. Two dozen more USC co-eds suddenly come forward with more disturbing tales of porn and lechery, creating a media frenzy that forces him out of the race that gets him appointed chariman of the judiciary committee if he wins or a job on the executive committee of the DSCC if he loses.

Either that or he’ll end up co-hosting a reality show on MTV with Ben Roethlisberger
