Clyburn says S.C. Dem Senate candidate is a 'plant,' calls for probe By Michael O'Brien - 06/10/10 07:37 AM ET The man nominated as Democrats' candidate for Senate in South Carolina might have been a "plant," a high-ranking Democrat suggested Thursday.
House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) called on the U.S. Attorney's office in South Carolina to investigate the circumstances that led to Alvin Greene winning the Democratic primary for Senate in the state earlier this week.
"There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary," Clyburn said during an appearance on the liberal Bill Press radio show. "I don't know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone's plant."
The third-ranking House Democrat said he found it strange that Greene, a relative unknown prior to Tuesday, was able to produce the money to register and run for Senate, despite being unemployed. Greene allegedly tried to pay in cash, and Clyburn said he wondered whether or not an outside party might have funded that and Greene's campaign, in violation of federal campaign finance laws.
Despite having no real campaign or prior political support in the state, Greene won the primary to face Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) this fall with nearly 59 percent of the vote -- almost 100,000 votes.
The South Carolina Democratic Party called on Greene on Wednesday to drop out of the race after the Associated Press reported that the candidate is facing felony charges for having allegedly displayed pornographic images to a college student.
Adding to the pressure on Greene was Clyburn's call for the U.S. Attorney to look at the possibility that an outside party might have funded Greene's campaign beyond legally permissible limits, and without having disclosed the source of those payments.
"I would hope the U.S. Attorney down there would look at this," Clyburn said, pointing specifically to Greene's having allegedly tried to pay the fee to run for Senate in cash, despite being unemployed.
"I think there's some federal laws being violated in this race, but I think some shenanigans are going on in South Carolina," Clyburn explained. "Somebody gave him that $10,000 and he who took it should be investigated, and he who gave it should be investigated."
State Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler said voters unfamiliar with either candidate may have voted alphabetically for Greene over Rawl.
WOW !!! it costs $10,000 just to file for the Democrat ballot. No wonder we don’t have citizen legislators anymore.
Greene is a plant?
Alright! Let’s see some photosynthesis, dude...
Al Sharpton won the democrat primary here in Michigan some years back and it wasn’t because the democrats wanted him.
Do we start calling Clyburn and co. “planters” now?
Really Carol, really, because if they are that F%&$in stupid they deserve what they get.
Okay, let’s take a quick poll of what happens next..
A. Aftr having lunch with Bill Clinton, Greene accepts a highly paid consulting position and a fat Swiss bank account, and then withdraws from the race “for the good of the party”.
B. Two dozen more USC co-eds suddenly come forward with more disturbing tales of porn and lechery, creating a media frenzy that forces him out of the race.
C. His trial for the porn incident goes on the docket with breakneck speed and mysteriously he receives a sentence of five years with no parole.
D. He disappears completely, and is later found to have been a victim of Arkancide.
Probably a grant from SEIU or ACORN:)
“Funny watching the Democrats practice racism against african americans. Another black caniddate they want to throw under the bus.”
The Leftist/Dems are racist, always have been the racists, will always be the racists, but then too we have to consider the size of the black population of SC, and wonder about the statement made in an interview of a black elder after the election of 2008 in which the black elder stated his disdain for Obama, but said “ ya never votes against blood.”
Makes one wonder.
Al Sharpton won the democrat primary here in Michigan some years back and it wasnt because the democrats wanted him.
We had a homeless guy who lived on the streets of Pittsburgh for many years named Bob Lansberry. He insisted he was the victim of CIA mind control experiments and a government plot to intercept his mail. (the Postal Service said their problem was his lack of a home address). He would wander the streets of downtown Pittsburgh with a sandwich board that made all sort of X Files type accusations against the government.
He once got 27,000 votes in the Democrat Congressional Primary.
So let’s review.
Allegedly, someone paid for an unknown candidate to enter the race, which he won with 59% of the vote... We need the AG to investigate immediately because this is illegal.
Someone paid off by the administration to drop out of the race in exchange for a position with the administration... Nothing to see here. Move along.
oooh...I almost forgot...
E. Greene is recalled to Active Duty and immediately assigned to bomb disposal duty in Kandahar Province.
“State Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler said voters unfamiliar with either candidate may have voted alphabetically for Greene over Rawl.”
Maybe it was a butterfly ballot and the people are just idiots as Al Gore would lament.
LOL....I guess he already has a campaign slogan ready...Bring GREEN jobs to SC.....HAHAHAH
My question to the dems is: Greene has only been accused, not yet found guilty. WTH ever happened to “presumed innocent?”
(crickets)
Basically, Clyburn is saying that the majority of Democrat voters are too stupid to know the difference and can’t be trusted to choose their candidates. I wonder who Clyburn voted for?
They’ll try to replace him with someone more “establishment”. This is going to be fun to watch!
If he were a real left wing liberal democrat, the charges would have been dropped.
