Awaiting the podcast for this afternoon's interview with Fowler, head of the SC Democrat party. She said that she's asked Alvin Greene to withdraw from the US Senate race against Jim DeMint, and that Greene had not agreed to withdraw.
Incidentally, a report is out that Greene has a felony porno charge pending but I haven't found the article just yet. Fowler talks about it, though.
Until Fowler's interview is up, listen to Alvin Greene on a radio interview last night.
Here we are with a legitimately elected candidate, a black man, being pressured by the Democratic party Chair, who is white, to withdraw from the race.
Doesn’t the timing strike you as being, well, off? Obviously, the party knew about their candidates legal issues before the election and never brought up the issue. Why? If they were that concerned about the pending charges, you’d think they would have said something before the election.
This smacks of racism. And I find it shocking.
This is way beyond beyond.
Well isn’t this when Obama offers Greene a cushy job???
“This is way beyond beyond.”
It is. I mean, this is 2010. We’ve elected a black President. And just when you thought we as a country had gotten beyond this kind of thing, it rears it’s ugly head for all to see.
Where is the outrage??!!
This may be the new season of the show where it is called “Let’s Make a Criminal Political Deal”
Isn’t there a suicide door like with the Blago-Connected Chicago guy.
So what did he do in Korea? Was he in the stockades? This guy doesn’t have a lot to say about himself.
What he should say is, “How about Secretary of the Navy?”
Heck, he’s got a pending felony charge anyway. Might as well go for it.
The timing is curious. Who knew and why did they sit on it?
I’m sure they had no idea he’d win.
Sometimes the obvious reason really is the reason. The white candidate thought he had it locked up. He didn’t, and now the black candidate had the temerity to go and win. He was supposed to quietly lose and go away.
Obviously it’s a race issue and I’m stunned that this sort of thing is still happening in this day and age.
As Rush would say, "we have a teachable moment here." Let's take your statement at face value, that everyone kept quiet, not wanting to "smear" (tell the truth in the new political lexicon) a Black candidate. Ah, but look at the greater damage that was done. If I contributed to this guy I'd be furious at the media and the party. I'd demand that they give me a refund directly. I'd turn out the party hacks that let this slide under the radar and I'd hound the media mercilessly about "what else are you hiding?" Imagine if there were endorsements by those in the know!
As long as Sen. DeMint doesn’t treat him dismissively the way Coakley treated Scott Brown.
Evidently he didn’t really run a campaign, so I doubt if anyone really contributed. If he was eligible at the time he signed up, if he paid his money and had his signatures, they had to let him run. Actually, I think it is a stitch. This sort of thing is really the logical and expected sort of thing we’d expect if we take the Obama Effect into account. Stuff like this will be his legacy. I am hoping this will help open more eyes.
Exactly.
Sorry, Fowler, but what's the point of having a primary if you're not going to abide by the results. Greene's legal issues were not exactly a secret, and there was plenty of time prior to the primary to have vetted Greene.
Now you're stuck with him. Serves you right. Frankly, he seems to be a good standard-bearer for Democrat principles and morality anyway.
