When Mitch Daniels ran for governor of Indiana in 2004, a friend and videographer got the idea of filming the candidate in vidéo vérité style as he traveled around the state in his Indiana-made RV. In both his campaigns for governor—in 2004, when he won a close race, and in 2008, when he won reelection against the Obama tide in an 18-point landslide—Daniels visited each of Indiana’s 92 counties at least three times, appearing in places that hadn’t seen a statewide candidate in generations, or ever. If he wasn’t riding the RV, he came to town on his custom-built Harley Davidson, a solitary aide trailing behind...
And voters, apparently, find it all endearing. In 2008 he garnered more votes than any other candidate in the state’s history, even as Obama became the first Democratic candidate for president to win the state since 1964. Daniels won 20 percent of the black vote and a majority of the youth vote. His approval rating among voters here, in the trough of the recession, ranges between 60 and 70 percent. He is everywhere in the news all the time; when I visited Indiana last month, his picture appeared on the front page of the Indianapolis Star, above the fold, on two of the four days I was there. He is at once so visible and so self-effacing that he seems to have sunk into a black hole of personal magnetism and come out the other side, where the very lack of charisma becomes charismatic. He is the un-Obama. Republicans—notably some wealthy and powerful ones who have decided he should be president—seem to like that...

Go learn about his entire record , not just one article written by a fan. Daniels is a Bush republican but maybe even worst than Bush. Daniels tried to raise taxes on everyone making more than $100,000. Atleast Obama only wanted to raise taxes on those making over $250,000.
Don’t forget Mitch wants to call a truce on social issues and just hand the gay and abortion rights activist a victory.
In 2007, Governor Daniels signed landmark health care legislation, called the Healthy Indiana Plan, that provides 132,000 uninsured Hoosiers with coverage. Sounds like a big government republican to me. Sort of like Bush.

I think we have to have a government, just a (really) limited one and where government is appropriate, it should serve the people’s interest (not government employee union interest).
Seems Governor Daniels is doing just that in Indiana. The article points out about a dozen ways in which he has turned the state into a limited, taxpayer-value focused government.
He disbanded the unions in Indiana, turned a budget that was hundreds of millions in debt to billions in surplus...during these lean economic times.
On the more personal issues, I don’t see anything “compassionate” about making the Bureau of Motor Vehicles assist the citizens of Indiana faster (average times went from over 40 minutes to under 10 minutes). That’s common sense stuff.
And, as a small businessmen, if I could save 75% of my time every time I have to deal with state government, that’s brass-tacks, common sense value.
I suspect the length of the article or your loathe for Daniels probably controls your reply. I had a nominal understanding of who Mitch Daniels was/is and I found the article interesting. My reply was genuine and based on the substance of the article.
And, say what you want, but he’d be a helluva lot better than the schmuck that is at the helm right now (course, my local AC repairmen would probably do a better job too...no offense to AC repairmen, of course).
Anyone can do better than Obama but this time the republic is at stake and just anyone won’t do. We don’t need a tax raising , healthcare passing , social issues surrendering rino like Daniels just because he balanced the budget in Indiana.
If you reach , you can make Bill Clinton from 1995-97 sound like the perfect choice for the GOP in 2012.

Again, my response was the to the article, not your summary of his career. The article alludes to a lot more than just balancing the budget and he seems to “get it”.
In earnest, maybe I’m not as familiar with Daniels accomplishments (or his failures) as you.
If you read the article (which I still suspect you haven’t) and you find that the list of things he’s done is either inaccurate or over played, cite it.
I want people in office who are looking to limit government wherever possible. The article seems to outline several ways in which he has done that.
