Fickle oil spill scatters its threats across Gulf

Oil from the BP spill is slathering some areas in a tarry mess while leaving others unscathed, even as a device collects more and more crude gushing from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. The recently installed containment cap on the stricken BP wellhead is helping to limit the leak, collecting more than 620,000 gallons of oil Monday, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said Tuesday in Washington. Authorities had reported that around 460,000 gallons were collected Sunday. It's unclear, though, how much oil is still escaping, and underwater video feeds continue to show a dark geyser. BP announced plans recently to swap out the current cap with a bigger one next month that can capture more oil. "I have never said this is going well," said Allen, who's monitoring the response effort for the government. "We're throwing everything at it that we've got. I've said time and time again that nothing good happens when oil is on the water." Officials have said that initial cleanup of the BP spill could take months and that the spill's effects could linger for years. Tests have confirmed plumes of oil in low concentrations as far as 3,300 feet below the surface more than 40 miles northeast of the well site, NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco said Tuesday. And as the surface oil patches dance unpredictably from coastline to coastline, residents who depend on tourism and fishing are wondering how to head off the damage or salvage a season that's nearing its peak.

The only positive? Barama will not win any Gulf states next time around.

Joe, I do personally believe that this is a “mega disaster”. At this point, it seems quite clear that there are no solutions in hand, and it also seems clear that the extent of this event is being covered up for whatever reason.

As a life-long resident of the deep south, and as a person who has enjoyed the gulf all throughout my life, this is very, very hard to stomach. I am DISGUSTED with BP, and I am DISGUSTED with Barack Obama.

God damn them all.

DITTO, DITTOS!

Play a dirge and funeral march for the Gulf, the fishing is over for at least a generation.

I also hate the terminology - leak, spill, F! It’s a GUSHER, an underwater volcano of oil.

I’ve read through the Bible twice while I could see read. Does anyone remember where it speaks of red sea waters? One assumes it is blood, but dould it be oil? Could such a huge outpouring of oil cause earthquakes? Does anyone know where to find this prophecy in the Bible?
On Hannity last night there were four people with solutions how tomop up the oil but BP nor the gubmint give them no credence. Wonder why? And did anyone listen to Coast to Coast AM last night?

swarthyguy, a while back when this first happened, I made a post about BP, the company that claims it’s so green and so caring of the environment, is the company that is going to kill the gulf.

I was flamed to no end, called a lefty, and all sorts of other dumb crap. I stand by my original statement. The gulf is being MURDERED right before my eyes, and it is PISSING ME THE **** OFF! Everyday I wake up, the first damn thing that jumps into my mind is thoughts of this catastrophe, followed by anger, and then rage. I find myself fantasizing from time to time about personally forcing the heads of some select people who shall remain nameless into the oil until they understand the magnitude of this.

The fact of the matter is that I am a conservative conservationist. Imagine that. A conservative who really does love and appreciate our surroundings and the natural beauty therein. And once again I am going to state, because it makes me feel really good:

God damn them all.

Paperdoll, here is a link to a page with a number of translations of line in Revalations 8: 8-

“The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood”

http://bible.cc/revelation/8-8.htm

Perhaps we are here, I really don’t know, it may be too soon to tell yet.

All the worst case scenarios posited have come true.

All of BP’s bootlickers and lickspittles have lied.

Brother John isn’t gone, but the Gulf is.

Gone, baby gone.

Gitmo’s almost empty, you and me could choose a lengthy list of BP execs and managers to send there.

Note that the words “in low concentrations” were buried far down in the story. Left out of the coverage was the NOAA’s reopening several areas to fishing yesterday.

They are lying about the amount. It’s MUCH more than even the highest estimates you have heard. Do you have any friends in the Coast Guard? Ask them what they are being told to say.

I’m pissed that they didn’t have a back up BOE. I pissed that on deep water wells they don’t have to have a relief well in place, but mostly I’m pissed about the cover up, slow response, clean up and LIES, LIES and more LIES. I don’t want them to shut down any wells in the GOM. I want them to keep drilling and keep pumping. BP is despicable, their record speaks for itself. BP, The Kenyan and the rest of his lying, cheating administration is covering up the intensity of this spill and I know that for a fact.

I don’t have any friends in the guard, joe, but I do not doubt what you are saying at all. The fact that no pictures are allowed in certain areas of louisiana is very telling. Someone is trying to make sure their ass is covered on this one.

Barry, I’m looking at you, you punk ass.

Former NOAA oil spill cleanup boss says Obama waited too long in Gulf disaster

Why didn’t federal officials implement an oil spill clean up plan they’ve had on the books since 1994 as soon as possible after crude began pumping into the Gulf of Mexico following the explosion and sinking of BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling platform 53 miles south of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico?

The Mobile Register reports that Ron Gouget, who formerly managed the oil spill cleanup department of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as well as a similar unit for the state of Louisiana, is criticizing the Obama White House’s failure to act according to existing government plans in the event of a spill in the area now being deluged with thousands of barrels of crude oil every day.

Gouget said when he was at NOAA, the agency created a plan that required burning off an oil spill in the region in its earliest stage, if the prevailing winds would not push the smoke and soot from the operation inland. The plan is still in effect, but was not activated last week by NOAA

I am in complete agreement, joe. I also don’t want drilling to be stopped in the gulf, but I will say that, at this point, I do not think that I support deep water drilling such as this. I would support it if the know how existed to stop a situation like this.

But clearly, what has made this situation SO MUCH WORSE is the incompetnent, lying, cover their asses, bullsh!it bastards at BP and the black house.

I am ready for heads to roll right now.

Certainly.

You know, I have to admit that reading these words-

“something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood”

and thinking of what happened and is happening...is scaring me.

We are not to be afraid. He who sits upon the throne of thrones is with us always. He is pouring His wrath down upon this nation because it is seething with sin from shore to shore. The only way back to peace and prosperity is through His son who died for those sins to give us life everlasting with Him. Without the Son one cannot meet the Father. So rather than quaking with fear, we must fall on our knees to pray that the unsaved will have the scales removed from their eyes, turn from their sin, and invite Jesus Christ into their hearts to live His life in them. May our faith be increased. May our days be blessed with His loving peace. May we walk bravely with Him into the future, no matter what it brings. And may the unsaved cease their rebellion against Him in soon. That is my prayer.
