I prefer to take folks at face value in terms of what they assert about and how they live out their relationship with Jesus in the present.

My father was a teen during WWII, but graduated high school in 1945. He joined the Navy out of HS and entered in late 45, iirc. His discharge lists him as a WWII vet. He was not, he’ll tell you. He was simply within the dates they used to describe the war era.
Was he a WWII vet? He says no. His paperwork says yes.
