I worked in a diner when I was a teen that gave 1/2 off to anyone in a uniform. According to the owner, he couldn’t legally give the police stuff for free, something about bribes I would guess, so he decided to expand it. It came in handy more than once.

Years ago I worked at McDonald’s and all uniformed police (local and state) got their meals free. We didn’t care whether they were on duty or not, but the uniform was what gave them the free meal.
