Yep. If they had just listened to the Driller and the mudman, this may not have happened. They had been battling over-pressures for quite awhile.
I think the cap over the top is one major step in the midst of a bunch of other steps. It is not to “cap” the well, but seems to be a funnel that now they will attach a hose to to bring the oil up to ships. With hopes of 80% capture. (20% still leaking into the water).
Yup. Those guys are experts. I am no expert but the BP manager had them take the mud out and just rushed it. Sad.

Having cut the existing pipe, I would have thought the next step would be to cinch a slightly larger (and flexible) pipe tightly over it. Instead, the “top hat” seems to rely on a very close tolerance fit which was frustrated when the diamond saw jammed. Rednecks can fix toilet leaks with duct tape better than this. They are going to have to take the “top hat” back off to do it right, and Bummer will never allow that.
