SEASCALE, England A taxi driver drove his vehicle on a shooting spree across a tranquil stretch of northwest England on Wednesday, methodically killing 12 people and wounding 25 others before turning the gun on himself, officials said.
The rampage in the county of Cumbria was Britain's deadliest mass shooting since 1996 and it jolted a country where handguns are banned and multiple shootings rare.

Assault rifles were banned in Britain in 1987 after the ‘Hungerford Massacre’, where Michael Ryan murdered 16 people on a rampage.
What about semi-automatic assault machine revolvers?
A good machinist with the right information and materials can easily make even the most primitive projectile tossing weapon from ordinary and unconventional materials. And building a basic shotgun is simple.
I have seen a tire iron drilled out and modified to fire a .22L.
The answer is to not make more restrictions and laws. Give everyone a gun, make it mandatory. There will in the near future readily accessible materials that will allow anyone to make a weapon, and maybe in 10 years or so a person could get a laser and power supply from other equipment, or a phaser. Are we going to keep mankind hobbled by restricting access to technology?
Give Britons full access to guns I say, what are the officials afraid of, a country full of idiots with bruised egos about who can shoot the best all having duels with each other trying to defend their honor?
That is the purpose of nanny government, right? The things you talk about make mother pelosi want to get her ruler out and rap your knuckles.
Just the very thought of someone that considers them self to be an “elite” over me gets me all fired up. Puts me on a one man mission to find, expose or use any weakness I can find about them, hammer them every day.Even the hardest substances on earth will break down from a continuous bombardment of abrasion.
Just to end all the speculation now this is a couple of days old.
- He was a regular white UK citizen who ‘went postal’. No War-on-Terror connections.
- Both guns used where legally owned. There is a lot of ignorance about UK gun laws on these forums. Guns are rare, many types are illegal, but certainly in rural areas like Cumbria there are large numbers of legal gun owners.
- As he had a criminal conviction he shouldn’t have been granted the license (*state fail*)
My thoughts and prayers with the families of victims.
