What does that mean, “gain tethering”? I thought the *only* way you could get an iPhone was tethered to AT&T.

I can do tethering for free on Verizon using PDanet.

It’s pathetic AT&T is just enabling the feature they said would be enabled a year ago.

Tethering means you can use your cell phone, iPad in this case, as a wireless modem. As an example, say you are in an area with cell service but no wifi. With tethering, you can connect the cell phone to the USB port of your laptop and use it to connect to the internet via the cell towers.
