Think maybe the “environmental disaster” aspect is being hyped just a teeny bit?
Here’s a quote from Reuters:
“Latest figures from the U.S. government on Friday showed 527 birds across the Gulf Coast have been collected dead over a 45-day period, although not all showed signs of oil.”
Imagine a rewrite that says that the spill may be killing as many as a dozen birds a day.
It is the ‘disaster de jour’.
It is bad.
It may get worse.
But it is certainly not the end of the world as we know it.

“BP still does not know how much oil the device will collect from the well, which is gushing 12,000 to 19,000 barrels a day...
Some is expected to continue seeping from a seal connecting the cap to the well even if the system can be optimized.”
