Yup, as a fella FReeper said: "Somewhere in the back streets of Toronto, there is a Camel limping".

And somewhere in this great universe there’s a lot of bouncing goin’ on, too.

Looks like only Skandi ROV 2 and Enterprise ROV 2 are the only ones up and running on operation Crap Cap and Crap Cap ain’t too impressive so far.

I don’t think they were expecting it to be very impressive the first time around, esp as there was so much pressure on them, including of course from Zero, to rip thru it so as to not pester them anymore. I have heard in 24 hours they have gotten 1,800 Barrels, not bat at all considering how hasty they had to make it. The prayer now is that they can keep improving it by closing the seal and vents more and then use additional methods to get even more. And after some time, they could even try again with fixing the pipes and making a better seal.

I would hence have to argue that what has gotten done is in some ways very impressive. The leaking looks bad, but it always will as long as any comes out at all. And yes, Tony Hayward may be a total jerk off but the BP engineers have been great I still say. Their biggest problem is being abel to give the time and attention to detail each step needs.

Hopefully in galaxies full of planets that consist solely of bouncing chicks whose gyrations eventually produce visible cosmological effects and ripples we will be able to detect.

I say a standing ovation is in order for the crew who did a tremendous job to get this far. Quit impressive to have to come up with fixes under pressure.

You are heaven sent! Thanks for the summary and description....I get annoyed when some keep complaining about what things look like...even after it's explained there's grumbling. I personally am proud of the guys working at getting things as much in hand as possible. The skill they have used is remarkable under the conditions they're working...and obama has no appreciation of this fact...he would do far better encouraging these men...but then obama hasn't a clue what that is. Thanks again...great job explaining to the uniformed.!

Actually ‘crap cap’ is working exceptionally well to be honest.

They are currently pulling around 1000 Barrels a day through the cap with all valves open. That is 42,000 GALLONS a day right off the bat.

The system can handle up to 20,000 Barrels a day flow according to specs.

The well is pumping between 220,000 and 500,000 gallons a day, depending on whether you take the ‘official’ estimate or the ‘worst case’ estimate. That is a flow of around 5,000 to 12,000 BARRELS a day.

IF we go with the official estimate, the cap is capturing 20% of the flow right off the bat with all the valves open.

Some are now saying it is pulling as much as 1600-2000 Barrels as they start to close valves on the Cap.

Already the ROV feeds are showing much more of the ‘fins’ than they were yesterday, so it is obvious they are starting to up the flow into the pipe.

BP is now saying they are very optimistic they will capture 80-90% of the flow with the cap. I would say that is anything but CRAP.

The leaking looks bad, but it always will as long as any comes out at all.

if you look at it in this light, the leaking will make more sense.

Imagine the well as a garden hose. Now take a srayer and put it on a hose running at full flow. As you put the sprayer on the hose it will make a horrible mess.

Now tighten down the sprayer half way. It will still look like just as much water is coming out the bottom of the srayer, but when you squeeze the trigger on the srayer you get almost a full flow. Look again, even with the sprayer shooting water quite impressively, it will still look like the same amount of water is coming out from under the Sprayer when it is obvious it is not.

That is basically what we are seeing with the CAP. It IS working, and as long as they can keep hydrates from forming it will continue to work, but even as they close down the vaklves and up the flow into the pipe, the leakage is still going to look as bad as ever even though it will be nowhere near the level it was.

I think they're called Pulsars.

All that is true and are good points. Plus, we should probably keep reminding ourselves, it’s GAS along with oil that’s coming out, and gas expands to very large volumes super fast. It just seemns incredibly easy for people to forget thgat so it should be noted again.

I checked last, just visually, about 4 PM Pacific time.

Just checked again. It is very plain to my eyeballs at least that there is much less coming out now. You can easily see the “fins” on the cap. As the oil rolls a bit, you can see the sidewalls and handle on the cap.

Not sure how far along they are in tightening down the seal but I would think any new figures on how much oil will be dramatically increased.

Then now all we need is prayers the pipes don’t get bent out of shape and that the BoP and cap don’t get destroyed.

We'll see, but I"M having trouble believing anything BP has to say.
I really hope it captures 80% or better.Heck, even a honest 50% would be great at this point.

BP isn’t the one saying it. The Gov’t has appointed the Coast Guard to monitor and give updates on progress and plans.

Adm. Thad Allen, Coast Gaurd spokesman, has been brutally honest throughout this, as he has critisized and praised both BP and the Administration.

The flow numbers are coming from him.

I wouldn’t trust anything BP says either, just as I trust nothing that comes out of anyone who is part of the Administration — but Adm. Allen has given me no reason to believe that anything he has said is not on the up and up.

Let’s hope so. And also hope the NOAA is wrong on their predictions about “worst hurricane season ever”.

But they say that every year no matter what...

I still think they should have put more of a valve type apparatus on it that they could shut or significantly slow down in case of a storm.

If this approach shuts it down by 90%, thats pretty good. Who knows how much natural seepage there is there anyways?

No doubt this will/is having an impact this season. But I’m getting a bit sick of all the caterwauling on the tube talking decades of woes, etc.
If they get it stopped this year, next year you will be hard pressed to see the effects.

Unfortunately I haven't seen that much of what Adm. Allen has to say, local news is hung up on what BP and Obummer has to say. Will have to start listening to what the admiral has to say, but he is not being covered that much down here.
