The Arabic word Jihad is derived from the root word Jahada (struggle). Jihad has come to mean an offensive war to be waged by Muslims against all non-Muslims to convert them to Islam on the pain of death. Jihad is enjoined on all Muslims by the Quran.

If you talk to many other Muslims (the non-terrorist type), they would tell you that Jihad has another more general meaning --- THE STRUGGLE AGAINST EVIL, THE STRUGGLE TO CONQUER EVIL PERSONALLY AND TO BETTER ONE's CHARACTER MORALLY.

Some who know the Christian New Testament will even equate this idea to St. Paul's using the Armor of God metaphor in his letter to the Ephesian church ( Chapter 6 ).

At least that's what my Muslim colleagues tell me.

I can see the relationship Jihad might have with
the Armor of God... except that Christians don’t
murder a person if they refuse to convert.

The inquisition was political jihad perpetrated
by evil people who were certainly NOT Christian.
