Christie to teacher: You can quit By: Andy Barr May 26, 2010 03:00 PM EDT
New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie told a disgruntled teacher that if she doesnt like the pay, she doesnt have to do it.
Christie was speaking to a small crowd in a church gymnasium in Rutherford on Tuesday when the Bergen County Record caught the exchange between Kearny teacher Rita Wilson and the governor.
Wilson claimed that if she were getting paid only three dollars an hour for the 30 students she teaches, her salary would be $83,000 a year, a much higher sum than her current take.
Youre getting more than that if you include the cost of your benefits, Christie pointed out.
The teacher responded by saying that she has a masters degree and that her current salary isnt compensating her for the value of her higher education as well as her experience.
To that, the governor responded: Well, you know then that you dont have to do it.

Yeah, well that RINO from Mass was the 60th vote that made possible Senate passage of that financial reform monstrosity.
Hoo-rah!!!
No, she's claiming $3/hour times 30 students equals $90/hour, which is a lot of moola for a government servant. She's not counting her 3 month vacation or knocking off work at 3pm.
funny you mention Bryn Mawr College - not many would know about that lib bastion.......Only kids of rich mainliners....
I'm sure she thinks she deserves at least $3 per hour per student, which would work out to a 23 hour week for the 40 weeks or so which she works per year.
It is kind of like a million dollar a year mediocre major league baseball player saying he really less than $0.14 per hour: one million divided by 162 games x 3 hours times an average paid attendance of 15,000 fans.
Chicago teachers work 2.4 hours per school day by contract and get relatively good money.
Probably much the same deal here.
$86,000/90 per hour/180 teaching days = 5.30 hours per day teaching.
Not a bad gig.
I disagree. I count about 20 Dim Senators from conservative-leaning states. They made this monstrosity possible.
It’s amazing that what he is doing is considered unique. It should be commonplace.
Why don’t we employ some name economy here and just rename him to Chris Tingle on FR? I mean, everyone will know to whom we are referring. Just a thought...
“You can quit”. Precisely what I’ve said to an employee or two. Good man!
Good find! Look at those salaries. What in the heck are those teachers complaining about?
good one!!
I’m sure she’s a lib, so, lying is their first and second nature.
Yep, that took me aback too, when I realized she was talking about being paid a separate hourly rate for each child, even though she is not offering individualized instruction.
Every worker can play that game.
