BP oil leak: Fallen Deepwater Horizon was tapping second largest oil deposit in the world

If there is a single aspect to the dangers of the BP oil leak, it lies in the question CEO Tony Hayward and other BP executives have been avoiding since the first drop of oil went rogue: How much oil is leaking?

The real answer is - more than anyone wants to admit, because the well holds enough oil to make Saudi Arabian drillers jealous.

The oil field the Deepwater Horizon had tapped is said to be the second largest deposit in the world. Viewzone.com reports, “The site covers an estimated 25,000 square miles, extending from the inlands of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Texas. “

The oil deposit is so large, it could produce 500,000 barrels of a day for more than a decade.

Ironically, the state with the most boats per capita in the U.S. is...Arizona

OK, “stupid question” time ... What’s a “nobel spinner”?

Dynamite used in illegal fishing.  You throw dynamite in to the water, it explodes and dead fish rise to the top and you grab the dead fish.

They’re pumping!

From BP site:

BP started the “top kill” operations today to stop the flow of oil from the MC252 well in the Gulf of Mexico.

The procedure is intended to stem the flow of oil and gas and ultimately kill the well by injecting heavy drilling fluids through the blow out preventer on the seabed, down into the well.

Pumping started at 19.00 (UK) and 13.00 (CDT) and continues.

I just saw this, have no idea if it’s blustering or the truth.

Check out the pictures and the links in this thread. There is 24/7 discussion here too:

ok GLP people here we go, i have to tell you the bad news i just got from a BP friend of mine over the phone.

They lost the oil pipe approximately 400 feet bellow the seafloor, it came apart from the connections (couplings) that connects the pipes together, now the oil is leaking from the corroding pipes, the extreme (sand blasting) pressure bypassing the well’s walls creating huge tunnel size wells way below the seabed.

The damaged underground well is out of reach to be repaired and now they hope with reduced pressure it will be easier to plug the pipe on the top section so it looks fixed.

This is a major problem right now for BP, he told me they must cover up the event and keep it a secret.

Can you read the date stamp on the camera?

Are they purposely blurring it and running old footage?

Yes, I think they are. I looked at it with a magnifying glass and it looks like a loop. Can anyone else see it?

Live feed is gone? Did something happen or they didn’t like what we were seeing?

Yes, August before they are ready. That is over 2 months and hurricane season starts in a couple of weeks. Why is it gushing out of 3 holes here. Do you know what we are seeing? As soon as it started to gush, of course they changed the camera to a clear place and a piece of equipment. Photobucket

I was educated at reply 109 by Smokin’ Joe. Highly recommended reading.

Seems like the same thing I told you, only he explained the why. I didn't figure you wanted the why if you were calling for a nuke.
