Until this week, the Obama administration had largely managed to deflect responsibility for the Deepwater Horizon disaster onto others vowing to keep a boot on the throat of BP, while slamming lax oversight on the part of federal regulators during the Bush administration.
But now, with crude lapping into the bayou, even Obamas defenders have turned critical. A White House that prides itself on operational competence and message discipline has been frustrated by an environmental catastrophe it cant predict, cant control and cant out-message and the strain is showing.
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs surprised reporters at the daily briefing Monday by announcing the president would answer questions about the spill in person Thursday the first presidential news conference Obama has given in months.

As you know, Barry has not faced the press for a presser since last July. Back then the media was totally in the tank for him, and only his stupid comment about Prof Gates tripped him up.
Now, the media still love him, but even they realize what an amateur and incompetent he is. The public is pissed off about the oil spill and if Barry thinks he can just shove off all the blame for the spill on Bush and BP, he will be making a big mistake.
I can't wait to see how he responds to the one or two non-softballs the MSM will be throwing his way. His thin skin will be sure to surface, and with his approval ratings tanking, the public does not want to hear his continual blaming of everyone but himself. The public wants results, and thus far Barry and his gang seem to be totally lacking any.
It probably all depends on what the meaning of “press conference” is. I can’t conceive of him allowing a freewheeling, wide-ranging, ask-anything brawl. He’ll probably filibuster for ages, take a couple of prearranged set up questions, and “go back to work for the American People.”
Or am I mistaken?
I don't believe it.
Obama will announce that he is no longer keeping a boot on the throat of BP. From now on it will be a golf shoe and a putter. He’s going to show them who’s boss.
Someone should also ask him for his long-form birth certificate.
And also ask him why his wife surrendered her law license.
And also ask him about his bribe offer to Sleestak...
Oil lapping up on the Gulf shores and a possible NK -SK military confrontation / war could remove the starch from Bozo’s tuxedo.
that’s all there will be too, one or two questions with his 17 minute long answers!
Nope, I agree with you entirely. He’ll take a softball question and filibuster.
The administration will come to regret this choice of words. People instinctively understand that it is hard to solve a problem with a boot on your throat. And people can see the phrase actually fits the actions of the thugs in the White House. "Boot on throat" is much more apt than "Helping Hand".
I wonder which reporter will be the first to scuttle the BP oil spill and ask Barry if he offered Joe Sestak a job if he’d drop his primary challenge. The spill is a problem...the job offer is a felony.
the man never actually answers a question. ever.
Why not tomorrow? You think he has to read up?
“the president would answer questions about the spill in person Thursday”
Dear Leader, expert in all things.
(”ex-spurt”: a has-been drip under pressure)
“Uh, uh..... uh..... and.... uh.”
“Next question?”
“Oil lapping up on the Gulf shores and a possible NK -SK military confrontation / war could remove the starch from Bozos tuxedo.”
Please let it be so; amen. I see where he’s even getting bashed on HuffPo; that alone would be enough to put panic into the man. When you cross the greenies, you got a fight on your hands. ;)
“Nope, I agree with you entirely. Hell take a softball question and filibuster.”
Maybe it’s getting a little too hot in the kitchen for him to slither out of this completely. The press has been griping about lack of access, and heaven knows they have a thousand questions they would like to put to him. If he tries to play too fast and loose, it could come back to bite him in the butt. If that’s not just wishful thinking.
Oh the environuts so loved him before.
He rode them hard and put them down wet.
He already has a tee time booked.
