When did we first get the ZIP codes ..??

I don’t remember having a zip code when I applied for my SocSec card .. weird ..??

The Zone Improvement Plan went into effect in 1963.

I don't know if I trust the advice of the feds(media) that the first three of SSN relate to 'your' zipcode.

Maybe it related to the zip of the central office it was databased?

Maybe it is now, but wasn't back then. Or maybe it's not true at all.

I was told by someone who had to check ID's that two of the digits in the last part of your SSN are the same as your birth year.

I have seen no proof any of what we are told is actually true.

1963. Although no one had to use them until '67, and then only mailers of second- and third-class bulk mail had to presort by ZIP Code. The Zip +4 was instituted in '83, but really didn't begin to be used until the end of '84.
