Since he’s a dem and was supported by Mary Matalin and serpent head it remains to be seen if he can govern a city with that much corruption built in.

1 a : to compel to perform military service b : to seize for military purposes
2 : to take arbitrary or forcible possession of
The officials are sick of Washington bureaucracy...soooo...they take it out on the locals.
I understand their frustration but this is not the answer.
Tell the EPA and the other unconstitutional agencies to take a hike.
As one man said we tried to get the ACE to ok dredging for a protective barrier for 20 years, now it's to late.
Who thinks the Feds are going to abdicate power NOW.

Nagin won last time because Uptown whites helped him but that support collapsed this time
I think Landrieu should be an improvement but his daddy’s entitlements is part of what killed NOLA

True - likewise while BP is directly responsible for stopping (or attempting to stop) the source of the leak -
....the actual shore protective booming, and shoreline clean-up efforts, are directly managed by a combination of state and federal agencies - NOT BP
Certainly they are stuck with the total costs for clean-up - but they have no real say or authority to determine who does what, when, where or how as far and shoreline areas

Although the article wasn’t very specific, I think you are right.
My guess is that BP wrote checks to “lease” a whole bunch of boats from local fisherman that have been idled because of the oil spill. The company may have had some intention to use the boats to help with cleanup, but the immediate purpose was to buy some temporary peace by compensating local fisherman. However, BP doesn’t have the people or organization to coordinate the kind of massive cleanup that would involve all these idled boats.
It sounds to me like the Jefferson Parish officials got tired of waiting around for someone to do something useful with the idled boats and took action. It would not surprise me if the actual owner/operators and crews of the ‘leased’ boats are the ones who will take them out and try to help with the cleanup on behalf of Jefferson Parish.

No it’s not BP’s property. They supposedly hired local fishermen (that are now out of work, maybe for life as fishermen) to help with the clean up and have not been using them to stop the encroaching oil. If the oil gets into the marsh they may not be able to clean it up.

It's hardly that. It's actually a bunch of local commercial fishermen who have basically had their livelihood destroyed. BP hired them and have basically kept them from working to keep the oil out of the marshes. Now that the oil is hitting the coast the local leaders are not going to wait and let the BP and federal gov idiots piddle around.

Since it’s local fishermen’s boats they know the waters and can put out the boom to help keep the oil out of the marsh. If it gets in the marsh there is a good possibility that they will not be able to clean it like they can on a beach.

“maybe for life as fishermen”
GMAFB. In five years we’ll see record seafood production out of the gulf.
This spill is dumping millions of gallons of food into the water.

I will never forget how corrupt the media was during the Clinton administration. Or how they tried to help Algore steal an election. Or how they undermined the President and military during war.

I wondered about that, too Frankly, I’d rather a bunch of cajuns handling the situation than the Obama Administration (and certainly the Nagin/Landrieu NOLA administrations).
Remember how everyone cheered that kid who took one of the school buses, collected his family and neighbors, and skipped off to Houston?

It’s not the oil that is the issue, it’s the dispersants being used that is questionable. Are you going to eat them after all this is done?
To: EDINVA
And the decent people of Houston, that were not murdered, are still regretting making Huston available to them.

The dispersant is broken down within 28 days.

This isn’t confiscation. In an emergency, government officials can commandeer boats, vehicles and planes to deal with the emergency. The emergency was the oil going willy-nilly all over the place and into the marshes, where the little fishies spawn that turn into big fishies that commercial fishermen depend on for their livelihood. The boats were sitting in the harbor unmanned and idle. Of course they had a right to commandeer them. It’s part of the right of eminent domain, and the constitution says that the rightful owner gets just compensation.
