While people may debate and snipe, ultimately, many will line up with the party recommendations if only because they don't have time to do all their own research.

Ah, and there's the problem.

The majority of the people I've spoken with do not do their own research. Even the ones who are upset and complain about the state of the country and the way the politicians are running things know scant little about who is running, or what they stand for.

It infuriates me! Ignorance is destroying us!

It's a big problem. Unfortunately, our local GOP has also been asleep at the switch. One of our elderly citizens complained to me yesterday that she'd had lots of informative mailings from the Dems and nothing from the GOP. She knows me from church and felt comfortable telling me. She's about 90 and very sharp. I hear this complaint from many people who know that the media is lying, but they don't necessarily know where and how to get to the truth. I think the GOP could do itself some favors by putting together some old-fashioned letters with information about the candidates and by inviting citizens to more candidate forums and in-person events. A lot of voters are hungry for something other than sound bites, attack ads and slick puff pieces. The media isn't doing the job, and not everyone will dig it out of the computer - especially some of our senior citizens.
