What would be the expected outcome if i used your method to strip the gun, then soaked it overnight in CLP and dried it? Would the gun remain ‘silvery’ without tinting to reddish rust?

CLP? That has Teflon, so no good with making finish stick. You need to follow the directions as stated. Do that, and you're laffin'.
