You want Change, California? I'll show you Change. (/Conan)

Hmmm...

His $83.4-billion plan would also freeze funding for local schools, further cut state workers' pay and take away 60% of state money for local mental health programs. State parks and higher education are among the few areas the governor's proposal would spare.

Elimination of CalWorks, the state's main welfare program, would affect 1.3 million people, including about 1 million children.

Got a question for ya Norm.

Do you read the articles you post?

Are you pro-big government?

I think the cuts to welfare will probably hit a lot of illegals that are only eligible for it because of their anchor babies. Losing that average $500/mo might be enough to encourage them to go home and take their anchor babies with them. That would take a load off the public school systems as well.

I'd be for it as long as it only applies to illegal aliens. They should not be receiving any benefits from tax payers.

Too bad the author isn’t willing to be truthful. The poor are at risk, not because of budget cuts, but because the liberals, in their asinine attempt to “fix” things, made the poor wards of the state and no longer masters of their own fates, and thus the victims when the state cuts its budget.

"California no longer has low-hanging fruits," said Schwarzenegger...

It would also make California the only state not to offer a welfare-to-work program for low-income families with children.

Are you sure of that? You mean that all this time I’ve been referring them to the cities whose streets are lined in gold, the sanctuary cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Free housing, free food, daily cash, vouchers and freedom from arrest. Also no need to look for work. Simply go to city hall in these cities to collect. Ask for the Mayor.

What cuts do you think should be made?

State, county, and city salaries.
State, county, and city benefits.
State, county, and city (unproductive) jobs.

Of course, when you say "State, county, and city" the only thing that bureaucrats can imagine is "police, firefighters, and pot holes".

Gotta work on that one.

The state is not responsible for the poor and has no right to take my money in taxes and give it to other private parties, rich or poor.

Someone gets it...

We'll take these below and others...More cuts are coming. Government has no choice...The private sector working class, have no more money to give...More larger cuts are coming.

Do you oppose Schwarzenegger's plans to:

Eliminate the state's welfare-to-work program.
Eliminate most child care for the poor.
Freeze funding for local schools.
Cut state workers' pay.
Take away 60% of state money for local mental health programs.

I would prefer we didn’t have to propose to wage total devastation on the populace, both the productive and the not so.. but if the state goes under, who will benefit from that?

I would prefer a nice pony and a 2010 Ferrari...

Fact is these are good cuts...

Eliminate the state's welfare-to-work program.

Eliminate most child care for the poor.

Freeze funding for local schools.

Cut state workers' pay.

Take away 60% of state money for local mental health programs.

but if the state goes under, who will benefit from that?

Now the conservatives are concerned about the "States" welfare, after brutally mismanaging California to the point of absurdity?

You're concern about the, "State government" is misplaced...The "state" is corrupt, mismanaged, bloated, arrogant, and spent money like a drunken lottery winner...

Ya see Norm, if these people running the "state" had one ounce of integrity, or self respect, they'd *all* quit first thing Monday morning, and call demand state government unions be eliminated, and state government programs be reduced by an additional 2 billion dolllars.

If all these poor and mental people can't get it here, they're free to go to Oklahoma or Wyoming. If the welfare types don't appreciate the cuts, they're free to head off to Reno....

We want taxes, government and government programs cut to the bone....Till it hurts....

And then cut some more!!

I thought this was a conservative forum.
