Yeah, it’s baffling.
Even at the earliest stages of pregnancy, the human is defined, taking on the inevitable form of an identifiable child but only as a function of time - it is always the same human, the same child, the same individual. The eye and hair color, gender, freckles, race, and every other feature is for the most part already determined.
Even if one refuses to accept a human is being killed through abortion, one cannot deny that a unique human signature is being destroyed in the process.
You don’t even have to be that intellectual about it. If a woman finds out she is pregnant and is not overcome with joy—whatever the circumstances—there is something wrong with her. We were made to be head over heels in love with our babies and awestruck that it has happened to us.
