Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

And what about the young women that haven’t been exposed to the teaching that life is sacred? In case you haven’t heard, families are being obliterated in our society and teaching at home is becoming scarce. So those same young women have a vacuum in their lives and no moral compass to guide them. So they latch on to someone they believe to be special and then learn that that person is for abortion and conclude that it’s ok.
And as far as being the most reasoned, I didn’t claim that but I recognize wrong and recognize moral absolutes and this is one subject that there is absolutely no compromise on.

I agree with you, the apathy toward abortion is one of the biggest abominations in our history. Although I will say, I've marched and have always voted prolife and given to those causes. I'm not sure I've ever done enough and feel confident that punishment is being meted out to us.
Been there too, until I couldn't do anymore. If a nation will not listen, then punishes those speaking truth, then it is left to God.

Well, I guess the way Bush laid down and died like a cowardly dog during the 2008 election makes a lot more sense to me now.

I don’t think so. I think this is the real Laura, unfortunately. Like I mentioned in a previous post - her passion is libraries/reading for children. Wouldn’t the natural position to take be adoption. A champion for adoption. But then add the homomarriage thing and you have a warped mindset, IMO. There is no way Bush agrees with her - no way!

What do you think he should have done?
To: ican'tbelieveit
It is not always the difficulty with adopting so much as the moronic judges that will take the child from the parents 6 years after the adoption and award it to the sperm donor and his woman when they wake up one day and decide it would be so cool to have a kid.
I wonder, if at times, it wasnt done that way to push the abortion agenda.
I would bet money on it.

And this is why I pay absolutely zero attention to so-called First Ladies. Their opinions are like those of movie stars and other celebrities: absolutely worthless. No one elected them, and in my opinion we should stop the fawning and lionizing and talking about their clothes. This just fosters a climate of respect that leads them to open their big mouths. You don’t become a president by being married to a president, end of story.
To: Outlaw Woman
It’s unfortunate that because of your condescension and outright rudeness you don’t recognize that someone may possibly be as passionate as you are, and agree that life is sacred at any stage.
I believe that she is wrong on this issue, but that doesn’t take away my admiration of her as a first lady.
Take care -

I hate to say this, but it makes me doubt whether Bush was really pro-life. Then don't say it! Why on earth would his wife's thoughts on the issue make you question the sincerity of the most pro-life President we have ever had. Nonsense!

You would think the adoption issue would be the natural result. I guess her abortion/pro homosexual views reflect her lost soul.

You're right..it is left to God. You know what finally calmed my heart? (because I was absolutely compelled to get the word out but to my shock, people were lukewarm at best) Anyway, it was at the point it was interfering with my sleep and everyday thinking but one day, out of the clear blue sky, the thought came to me that these beautiful little innocent angels are instantly in the Lord's hands. That was the only thing really, that calmed me. I will never accept it but I do know that the evil is the law of the land and there is only so much as individuals that we can do. Vote prolife, give to prolife causes and continue the fight as we must do.

Don’t know where you get that. You’re the only one that feels you keep need to hammering at what I said. Condescending and rudeness? Show me where...on the other hand forget it.
You admire her all you like. She is damaged goods.

You don’t even have to be that intellectual about it. If a woman finds out she is pregnant and is not overcome with joy—whatever the circumstances—there is something wrong with her. We were made to be head over heels in love with our babies and awestruck that it has happened to us.
