Kapi’olani Hospital wasn’t built until the ‘70s and opened sometime in the mid ‘70s, while I was attending the UH at Manoa.

It's true, but be careful about drawing the wrong conclusion and perpetuating internet myths. The current Kapiolani was opened in the late 70's, as a continuation of the old Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital and the old Kauikeolani Children's Hospital. The Nordyke twins were born at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital. So yes, the current hospital dates from the '70s, but the predecessor hospital existed in 1961.
