Conservative gives the candidate he backs in California an ultimatum [Get moving DeVore]

(CNN) – A prominent conservative is issuing an ultimatum, essentially telling the candidate he supports to do better in the polls – or lose his support.

Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of RedState.com, backs Assemblyman Chuck DeVore in the California Republican senate primary. DeVore is locked in a battle with former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and former Rep. Tom Campbell for the right to face Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer in November.

Speaking Tuesday with CNN Chief National Correspondent John King, Erickson – a CNN contributor - said he won't support DeVore much longer if the candidate does not improve his political standing.

"Look, if Chuck DeVore hasn't gone up in the polls within two weeks significantly, I'll be with Carly Fiorina because Tom Campbell is that bad," Erickson said.

In this race Tom Campbell is easily winning, and he is running on a proabortion, pro gay marriage/adoption, antigun platform, that means that he will hit the ground running when he reaches the Senate, having confirmed that anti social conservatism is the new Republican message.

“Campbell supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and argues that Boxer’s greatest asset against either of his two Republican opponents, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, would be the state’s decidedly un-conservative social views.

“She has always been able to move the debate over to the social issues. She will not be able to do that against me,” Campbell told POLITICO.”

“During the campaign for U.S. Senate in 2000, Campbell touted his 100 percent pro-choice voting record. He opposed a ban on “partial birth’ abortions, one of the most horrific abortion practices. (”Conservatives Agonize Backing Campbell,” Roll Call, August 7, 2000.)

Campbell in 1992 made abortion the center stage of his campaign. In the 1992 election, Campbell’s TV ad ran with the following caption: “For choice, for jobs, for U.S. Senate.” In another ad, he said, “I’m pro-choice and one of the most conservative members of Congress when it comes to spending.”In a Republican debate, he described his abortion views, as good for voters “looking for someone who is willing to break with the party line from time to time.” (Gerry Braun, “Herschensohn Won’t Pledge to Back GOP Pick; Senate Opponents Renew Acrimony in Last Debate,” San Diego Union Tribune, June 1, 1992.)

Oh, yeah. Now I remember what I was going to say.

Hope Sarah is not supporting Carly due to her, ah, er, sterling conservative credentials, such as, agreeing with many of Obama’s policies, not knowing whether or not ObamaCare is a good or bad thing (she hadn’t read the bill) (but hopefully she has read the constitution?), she likes cap and tax, she fights global warming, she supports TARP and the bailouts, she supports federal takeover of education, she likes Obama’s Supreme Court picks (extreme fanatical feminists), she is a radical feminist herself, she wants to regulate free speech, tax the Internet, etc.

Now why on earth would a grassroots Tea Party conservative like Sarah support such a backstabbing statist boob?

Educating you enough to know that they are not the same would suffice.

Tom Campbell is way beyond rino. Tom Campbell is running the race on a platform of abortion, gay rights, and no guns, and he is winning the primary.

Campbell winning on that platform gives him the full endorsement on those policies from the California Republican voters.

I couldn’t care less if Tom Campbell beats Fiorina either. Two sides of the same RINO

You need to do some research on Campbell! Worse than a RINO, he is an Islamist not unlike Grover Norquist. Jennifer Rubin has done some research which should be easy to find.

If Campbell wins the nomination myself and a lot of other conservatives will have to vote for Boxer as long as she stands up for Israel.

Well, I’ll let you californians figger that out if it should come to pass. There is only one person in the race that is getting my support and that is DeVore.

I have to admit, I hadn’t considered the sneaky McCain angle! I gave some thought to the friendship Sarah might have developed with Fiorina on the campaign trail in ‘08. I also saw posts here that said Chuck DeVore asked her for her endorsement in Searchlight, and that she waited until 4 weeks out endorse the one she thought could best stop Campbell.

I think it’s fair to say that this endorsement caught everyone flat-footed. I applaud Sarah or all her good work and she’s earned her voice on the national stage. She’s endorsed and supports a lot of good veterans across the country who are running for congress, conservatives running for governor, and then there’s two senate races in the West... both connect to McCain. You’re right about that, Jim.

Campbell is even worse than that. Conservatives that are onto him will support the witch Boxer to defeat the pan-Islamist Campbell.

abc = anybody but Campbell

I'd formulate it abceb.

Anybody but Campbell except Boxer.

I am for Devore, but I agree he needs to show some chance real soon or we are stuck with Fiorina. No matter what, it will be very nice to get rid of Boxer.

“What is De Vore’s problem?”

He’s jumping from CA State Assembly, past CA State Senate, past US House all the way to CA Senator.

He’s unknown outside his safe GOP district, he’s way short of money, and he’s not very interesting, as a campaigner.

He gets all the issue boxes checked off correctly, like Duncan Hunter, with similar results.

Fiorina has better name recognition (business big wig, first female CEO, etc.) and money.

Campbell has statewide name recognition, and is the GOP moderate in a left leaning state.

Right now conservative votes are split between Fiorina and DeVore. If both stay in Campbell easily wins the nomination.
