I think you posted to the wrong person....
Actually, if you want your kids to do well on the ACT, just have them be white.
Homeschool - 22.5
White - 22.8
By the time they get through HS and/or college, most of them are commies. They’re being taught by liberals. YOU should know better. It’s YOUR responsibility to protect your children. Warehouse them if you like. Let government indoctrinate them, it’s your choice. We choose differently.
But those stats you published don’t say what you want them to say. In fact, they say just the opposite. That as long as your child is not a URM (under represented minority) their scores are going to be above average. The best measure of success seems to be that they are Asian - that’s all they need I guess....just be Asian
“Actually, if you want your kids to do well on the ACT, just have them be white.”
That is probably a more consistent statistical pool.
Again, I am not railing against homeschooling - just self-selecting statistics used to “prove” something that isn’t so because of homeschooling.
Statistical ignorance is rampant on this thread.
Nah, I posted to the person who I thought might be interested in the science behind the numbers.
If I was wrong, sorry
“We choose differently.”
YOU do more damage to homeschooling that you even know, because you aren’t bright enough to realize what you are doing with your bad attitude.
“If I was wrong, sorry”
No, not at all....I think you and I are the only ones who actually understand statistics on this thread.
We gotta stick together....
I got the entire article from the Homeschool Legal Defense Association’s web site. If you have issues with the research, maybe you should complain to them.
To be fair though, how many people even knew, much less understood, what I meant when I posted "Standard Deviation?"
“I got the entire article from the Homeschool Legal Defense Associations web site. If you have issues with the research, maybe you should complain to them.”
You do not understand what you are posting, yet you post it anyway?
They have an agenda. I agree homeschooling should be allowed everywhere - I just think you shouldn’t have to lie to achieve the goal.
Pffft. Good day to you.
The HSLDA is in business to make money. Seriously, that is its purpose. It publishes information that makes itself and its constituents look better.
What sounds better? HS students average 22.5 compared to the average of 21.2 or HS students performed less than half of one standard deviation better than average? Both statements are true, but which one sells memberships?
“To be fair though, how many people even knew, much less understood, what I meant when I posted “Standard Deviation?””
Yet, they are probably teaching their kids statistics.
These statistics do great damage to homeschooling - by giving people who don’t really know the confidence to teach certain things, when they need to reach out to folks who can actually do it.
I have my MA in Linguistics, and I worked with statistics for my thesis. So yes, I understand “Standard Deviation” and I also understand the concept of not “Statistically Significant”
What an arrogant statement though.
Okay, that makes three of us.
Great for them, I’m glad they make money.
I don’t homeschool because of the HSLDA. I homeschool because it works, and I did it long before I had even heard of HSLDA.
Why do you homeschool if you don’t mind my asking?
Yeah, that broad brush technique is annoying isn’t it? Trust me, I’ve been there, caught up in a statement made about an entire group, feeling the sting, slightly annoyed...Yep, been there.
