To a journalist slumming for headlines, ANYTHING can be an AK.

The usual misidentified weapon is an SKS, but in a pinch, they will make do with ANYTHING.

Two inert pieces of metal in the shape of grenades.

It’s an utterly useless exercise.

I saw some nice Colt revolvers and a K98k Mauser turned in to be melted down, terrible.

The hand grenades were inert and I'd be willing to bet that the AK rifles don't actually function.

Besides the hand grenades, which police said were inert, some people handed in dusty antique rifles, while others gave up their high-performance rifles. Some of the guns collected are so deadly, they could pierce bulletproof vests, Weis said.

I have a bolt action .30-06 that will do that, too. It used to be that reporters made fun of stupid political hacks, but nowadays it seems the stupid political hacks have cause to make fun of the reporters.
