It is an authentic and sincere holiday - for Mexicans in Mexico.
It is a celebration of a military action agaist the French in Mexico.
Absolutely NOTHING to do with the US.
I have been to Mexico many times on Cinco De Mayo and can’t recall it being celebrated.
Most recent experience was last year during the fake swine flu outbreak.
That was fun. Nothing was open except a theme park and I was there on Cinco De Mayo. No party. No party in Play Del Carmen, Puerto Aventura.
Nada.
