I'm not hostile to Coats.

Back in 1992, Coats was the Commencement Speaker at Wheaton College. He spoke how his Christian faith helped him to make tough, but moral decisions on issues like abortion and fetal tissue research. I wonder if Coats will let his faith in Jesus guide him in the Senate or will he let the DC establishment do it?

Coats chickened out of reelection in 1998, essesntially handing the seat to Evan Bayh. It’s ironic that the sudeen candidacy of Coats was one of the reasons that Bayh suddenly dropped out of the race this year.

Coats only won 39% in the primary, with Stutzman winning 30% and Hostettler winning 22%. Hostettler should have dropped out.

Here are some other Indiana primary results. Mike Sodrel was badly beaten in the Republican primary.

Coats is in his 70’s now. I don’t think he’s playing to the DC establishment, anymore.
