I believe the most common way of ridding waters of such oil slicks today is through biodegradation with a special “oil eating” microbe. But why can’t it simply be contained with a floating wall and vacuumed up from the surface for normal use as crude oil until the leak can be plugged? Why let the oil go to waste?
